EGYPTIAN BUFFETS

For the Ramadan month, two hotels are offering an Egyptian buffet for its break-fast dinner.
The first is the Grand Hyatt, which is replacing its normal halal buffet at The Straits Kitchen with specialities from the Land of the Pyramids.
Preparing the food are two chefs from the Hyatt Regency Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt, who will present dishes such as Turkish kofta, goulash with cheese and mezze items (small appetisers and dips) like tahini and tabboule.
These will complement its spread of local Malay dishes which include lemang, serunding and lontong. There will also be a barbecued whole lamb. The buffet dinner is on till Nov 3, and is priced at $48 for adults and $25 for children.
Across the road at Royal Plaza on Scotts, a similar buffet is held at Cafe Vienna.
Here, the food is prepared by the hotel's own Egyptian chef, Emad. He, too, has come up with a barbecued whole lamb as well as specialities such as kofta, tagine of lamb and beef cooked with eggplant. You get a good selection of mezze as well.
From 7 to 9pm, musician Zubir Abdullah performs Malay pop songs on the traditional gambus and keyboard.
The dinner ends on Nov 2. It is priced at $48 for adults and $24 for children.
