Went to try Awon today with regards to numerous recommendations by the people here as a better alternative to Seoul Garden's Korean BBQ + Steamboat.
MY VERDICT
General:
Basically uses a gas operated heater. Those small bottled gas one, not the big ones used in hawker centre. The pot resembles a steamboat pot, just that there is an "open space" on the top of the pot which you use to BBQ your meat.
The space for the soup and the space for the BBQ-ing of the meat is too small for my liking. You cannot even immerse your spoon fully into the soup to scoop the soup. The BBQ space is also very small and in the end the meat slips into the soup and it becomes steamboat instead of BBQ

Food:
Two tastes: SWEET or SALTY. Yes that is about it. The meat, no matter beef, pork or chicken, is sweet. The soup is basically sweet with just a little dose of spiciness. Mostly what you cook inside the pot is sweet. The side dishes that accompany the buffet like hot dog, tofu (tau kua), ikan billis, kimchi are very salty, but they do taste good when go with rice.
Service:
Only 1 waitress on the floor, but sometimes the kitchen helper comes out to help. Very positive attitude by the waitress, always smiling, never compromising. Bagus.
Ambience:
Very quiet and peaceful, most probably because of weekday. You don't really feel very korean there, but it is still not bad lah.
Pricing:
$20.80+++ a la carte buffet (per person)
Choose Free flow hot tea or ice water
Limited spread of chicken, pork, beef, mixed vegetables like cabbage, onions, mushrooms and carrots. Free flow of soup.
Free flow of rice, kimchi, ikan billis.
Comes with one serving of hotdog, tofu (tau kuar), some kind of smoked fish.
There should be a 30% off the total bill when paying with DBS cards. (not sure, dun trust me 100% on this)
CONCLUSION:
3.5 out of 5 stars
Better than Seoul Garden? Maybe just by a bit.
