Arts Central, Thursdays, 9.30 PM !
SYNOPSIS:
In this amazing program, presenters Maeve O'Meara and Joanna Savill have boosted the adventure factor - travelling to some of the most far-flung corners of the countryÂ… and tasting some truly fascinating food.
Ever tried fresh Australian snails, sea cucumber or lotus root? How about melokhia - the food of the pharaohs; or the famous "blue bones" - a fine-fleshed fish that's a specialty of Broome? Then there's Greek offal soup, buffalo baked in an aromatic ground oven and wild baby goatÂ… just great on the barbie.
Over 13 episodes the series explores all that's new and fascinating when it comes to fresh, seasonal produce -juicy fresh pistachios, Australian-grown saffron, walnuts, custard apples, farmhouse cheeses and the latest varieties of persimmons, strawberries and pomegranates.
Join Maeve and Joanna on their voyages of discovery as they plunge into Australia's hidden food worlds - the colour and spectacle of South East Asia at Lao New Year, the solemn yet joyous rituals of a Greek Easter, a three-day long ceremony at a Sikh temple. Feast on Asian greens among the bougainvilleas of a Darwin backyard, the "best lamb on the planet" on Tasmania's Bruny Island, home-cooked Turkish specialties or authentic Greek taverna fare in the middle of the desert.
