  yesterday was monday? if me not wrong most of the shops will be close or close early on mondays cos the market do not open on monday also.
  
  so they have no food to prepare, might as well take a break.
  
  the hawker center in subject usually open till 10pm if me not wrong

  are you talking about the hawker with the "famous" carrot cake? because if thats the one.. then i'd be glad to tell you everything i know about it, i live really close =D.
