Why CNY must have bak kwa?
Last time my fren sell bak kwa, he told me bak kwa inside got some kind of chemical, better dun eat too much. -

Of course it's OK! Bak kwa is not a "traditional" food/item, like nian gao, and hong pao. It's all due to marketing...or gluttony.
You don't think every household had bak kwa during CNY during the 60's and 70's, right?

Of course its ok. No one visits, no one at home eats also, buy already wait for it to turn stale, put in the fridge then microwave it and eat it with leftover rice.

i think it's good marketing ploy lah, to create a market from nothing, last time i read in the older days not many people buy diamond rings, until the famous marketing line, diamond lasts forever advert, then people start buying it for engagement/marriage... marketing people very smart lah, they can influence and put beliefs into people so that they became habits, which then became profits to those commercial organisations.
