They din even tell us there was a wedding, just take in reservations.Originally posted by FireIce:u there when there's a wedding?
hmm.......no wonder.........
noble house is my family's favourite....
at least go once or twice a year
Try the roasted chicken with Apple Sauce at Club Chinois.Originally posted by BillyBong:Noble house food is decent. You have to select the right food i guess.
Avoid sharks' fin soup (save the sharks!). Their bamboo clams, yam pot and Soon hock are probably their best dishes.
Roast chicken is more or less the same everywhere, so it's fair when people label Tung Luk's as ordinary. I have only tasted top class roasted chicken in two places: Wan Hao at Mariott and Dragon Phoenix at River Valley, which happens to be their signature dish.
Chinois? That overpriced, overhip and overrated place? bah!Originally posted by soul_rage:Try the roasted chicken with Apple Sauce at Club Chinois.
That was heavenly...

u been to humble house?Originally posted by soul_rage:If you talk about Tung Lok, the only Tung Lok that I now like, is Club Chinois. Decor, service, and food are all tops.
nope. The Tung Loks I have been to are:Originally posted by FireIce:u been to humble house?
teahouse is pretty gd whatOriginally posted by soul_rage:nope. The Tung Loks I have been to are:
Jade at Fullerton
Lao Beijing
Noble House
TeaHouse at China Square
Club Chinois
Kippo
Tung Lok itself
The best, I feel, in terms of ambience is Club Chinois. Service was top-notch, and food was good (albeit pricy)
The most not-value-for-money is Jade, just 1 bad experience is enough to keep me away. 1 dish that day was bland, I called up the manager and told him. Instead of doing something to rectify the problem, he told me he will inform his chef to be more careful in future.Hello! You think I will go back again? Then the waitress served wrong dish, lucky we never tuck into the food, and it was only a few mins later that she came back, take it, and bring it to the correct table. duh!!!
TeaHouse was worse than Noble House.
Tung Lok (The flagship restaurant at Liang Court) food is good, but is just a typical chinese restaurant, so I don't see much ambience
Kippo's buffet was also really good, but its too out of the way (not sure if its still there at Keppel Club)
its up to you coz reviews are subjective. I don't think I would insult you if you make reviews.Originally posted by :Are u sure Noble House is so jialat? Mebbe they dun like your face, izzit? Cos I love their a la carte buffet! I have faith in them and will disregard your review. I'll patronise them next month. Crumples review and tosses it into the waste paper basket...........![]()
They may have improved. I was there when they first opened.Originally posted by Kenashi:teahouse is pretty gd what
i went for the dinner buffet recently, only the fried beancurd n the dessert cannot make it, all the rest r pretty up to standard![]()
buffet is more for trying out a whole range of foodOriginally posted by soul_rage:its up to you coz reviews are subjective. I don't think I would insult you if you make reviews.
My expectations of a Chinese restaurant are high, coz I am willing to pay good money. I don't eat buffets anymore coz the quality is not good.
You can go ahead and eat buffets as long as you are happy, but I won't be paying for quantity over quality.
correct, once i got a bad experience with one place n u never find me there againOriginally posted by soul_rage:They may have improved. I was there when they first opened.
The point is, in restaurants, its simple. Just one bad experience and usually you won't go back there again.
Anyway, I no longer eat buffets coz I generally find buffet quality to be not good
used to be. I used to go there 6 years back. Went there multiple times coz the buffet was good.Originally posted by stryker17:i tot the ala carte buffet is very good. =)
what is wrong with eating when theres a wedding going on? too noisy for u?Originally posted by soul_rage:Had dinner at Tung Lok Noble House Restaurant last night.
Had the following:
Sharks' fin soup
Spicy Clams/Sotong with Broccoli
Chinese Spinach with Shredded Dried Scallops and Mushrooms
Roasted Chicken
Herbal Prawns
Verdict:
The sharks fin soup is so-so
Spicy Clams/Sotong is good. The spice was just right, with clams tender and sotong really tender
Chinese Spinach so-so. Spinach tasted overcooked.
Roasted Chicken so-so. Nothing special.
Herbal Prawns so-so. Nothing special.
A far cry from the Noble House of the old days, when I brought my wife there many times for their food.
Plus, I din like the idea that they still open their restaurant to walk-ins/reservations when there was a wedding that day. Imagine us seated on the side of the main dining hall, while the centre is for the wedding. I thought it wasn't really nice.
Food: 6/10
Value-for-money: 5/10
Ambience: 4/10 (I give a fail point coz I think it is not reasonable to open their restaurant for walk-ins and reservations, when there is a wedding going on. Its a little awkward when you come out of the lift, and got mistaken to be coming for the wedding.)
Overall: 5/10
Won't go back there again
how come they know ur name?Originally posted by browniebaobao:i always go teahouse.
no complaint so far...except for the chinese waitress who cant spell my name right.
their desserts ok wat.
love their mango puddings and riceballs coated with peanuts.
fried beancurd roll also ok wat... maybe it's ur personal liking.
u dun eat wat u dun like lor.
on the contrary, you are wrong.Originally posted by krakadu:what is wrong with eating when theres a wedding going on? too noisy for u?
please dont be selfish.
maybe coz the wedding takes up only like half of the restaurant? or the wedding couple didnt wanna book the whole restaurant (maybe becoz of cost?) ?Originally posted by soul_rage:on the contrary, you are wrong.
I am upset coz I think they are INCONSIDERATE to the wedding couple.
How could they accept reservations when someone is getting married?
Everyone's sitting in the same dining hall, and I feel really bad. Not to mention, they never informed us there was a wedding going on when we made the reservation
to me, such behaviors smacks true of the lack of ethics.
regardless, Noble House is the FIRST restaurant I have come across to take in reservations even when a wedding is taking place.Originally posted by krakadu:maybe coz the wedding takes up only like half of the restaurant? or the wedding couple didnt wanna book the whole restaurant (maybe becoz of cost?) ?
