Jelly can be consume by Vegetarian.
It is a substance called gelatin that is sometimes found in jelly which makes your teacher says that.
But, NOT all jellies contain that.
And, a number of sweet contain that too.
Gelatin.
1. A colorless water-soluble glutinous protein obtained from animal tissues such as bone and skin
2. An edible jelly (sweet or pungent) made with gelatin and used as a dessert or salad base or a coating for foods

Ask my vegetarian friend about it... He say jelly can be consume by them. It is gelatin that can't be taken...
