I am Sick of eating in Singapore liao there are lack of variety not much choice...
When I go oversea for a month or so I don't feel like comming back to Singapore. I enjoy the different type of food everyday...
The Food in Singapore in the Hawker Centre / Coffee Shop / Food Court all almost sell the same food only different is nice or not nice... -

10+ years ago the roadside stalls in HK still serve really good food
but the last time i went back....taste is BLEAGH! and price is OMFG high...=(
i used to LOVE the curry fishballs...
now not nice anymore! 
and longlong time ago in 'winter' when it was still chilly enough for me to put on a jacket, i loved their malt soy milk in a glass bottle... hehe those were the days... -

went to hk 2 mths ago. still missing the dianxin, chow toufu, and de yu dan. -
I craved local food everytime i was abroad. nothing can beat the taste of bak kut teh and pig's liver.
food here DOES NOT suck. maybe TS is too selective and only want to eat high-class cuisine.
anyway, do the ramly burgers from pasar malams taste good? a lot of times they come and go but i forget to go and buy, knn -
i do agree wif TS esp when paying $3 or $4 for lousy food.
price increase but the quality decrease.
miss those good days we have old markets dat serve cheap n good food.
but in general, i feel sg is one of a place dat have many varieties of food. -
for pple who disagree wif TS, do list down some of the locations here where he/she can find quality food.

Its in the food courts, food junctions of shopping malls. The settings and layout are vastly improved from the dingy hawker centres and kopitiams, but the food is below mediocre. Thats because its the workers who prepare the food and not the chef or cooks These workers prepare by rote.
A little bit of this, a little bit of that, this a few seconds, then that, then flop into the bowl, then put bowl on tray. They go according to sequence.
I now never go to food courts because the food will definitely be lousy, and guarantee have to hunt for a seat.
Another reason why the food quality is poor, is because Singaporeans accept the poor quality. And the vendor continues to survive.
These vendors should have been forced out of business. -
Depends on what taste you go for. For eg, there are people who told me they go for traditional, original wanton mee taste. According to them these days, it is pretty hard to get this sort of traditional original wanton mee.

Yes, its the taste that Singaporeans should go for. Not the product.
Food should be appetizing and prepared with dedication. There is no reason why the noobs cannot prepare a good dish. All it needs is dedication to improve and sustain the quality. Like the old hands.
Take the Indian mee goreng stalls in kopitiams. The old veteran has gone back to India, and the young apprentice takes over. And he serves slop. He just follow the procedure he is taught, and never improves. And he survives because Singaporeans continue to patronise him.
Same goes to the famous Hokkien mee, Chicken rice, ch'ng tng etc.
Singaporeans don't have good taste.
Its the good ones that should survive.
And the lousy ones should fade away. -
I am very surpised to taste fantastic sgpore food in califonia and vancouver, and its better than I have taste than in sg. But of cos the price is alot higher than in sg. But i think msia food are better. -
I had fantastic North Indian food in London, in one of the Balti line of restaurants. After that experience, I find the Indian food here to be... just curry based, nothing to umm about. Just goes to show how taking pains to prepare a dish could go towards making it a memorable one, as against a run of the mill one.
As for price, the establishment counts, say a set of chicken rice, that cost $8 - $12 in up market places, same set would cost about $4 - $5 at hawker centres.
