In Australia, drinking water is given without having to ask for it.
Buy a coffee and you'll be served with a bottle of iced tap water.
This is usual at the cafes I patronise. -

but i believe some of the waiters will try to push the sales by promoting other beverage since they r being pressurized by the F&B management. but ice water is given nonetheless with or without diner request. -

i quote u pple one example as a waiter experience of mine:
suppose one day u r outstation at the poolside area (basement 2). u r request to push the sales for beverage for hotel guests who r suntanning. n the bar counter is at 1st floor.
"Do you want any drinks sir?"
"Just bring me 10 glasses of ice water!"

u dun chase a customer away becos u wanna be niao n dun serve them ice water
who noes... u just drove away someone who will bring all his frenz over resulting in a more than 2k expenditure in that estab in a mth alone?
