Yum Cha at Chinatown. The best place to bring your mum for a dim sum lunch, in my opinion.
yumcha is cheap and quite average
i dun mean not nice
but for tt price, it's about tt quality lah.

Yeah, your quite right. Its definitely cheaper then restaurants like Crystal Jade and Imperial Treasure but the standard is there.
I would suggest Red Star restaurant as well for your dim sum needs.

Imperial treasure is also known as Nan Bei, they serve dimsums, the dishes are not very expensive, my family eats alot and for a table of 5(6 actually but my brother doesn't eat alot), we paid 120, so say a good $50 nett for 2? I go there at least once a month and I think it's not bad only.
Xiao Long Bao(MUST TRY), Ha Kau(Prawn dumplings), can try the XO Ox tail(Hong shao niu wei).
If you're looking for very good xiao long bao then it must be Ding Tai Feng at paragon(VERY PACKED)
The siew mai at Furama hotel is superb, but also more expensive(considering the location) I'm going on Saturday =)
By far Crystal Jade Holland V is still better than Taka...Imperial Treasure is not bad too...then again its your budget =)
Also, if you're looking for something more flashy, Xi Yan is a shop-house restaurant situated at which serves a menu, which you cannot choose your dishes, each dish is served with a description before you start(the waiter will tell you what is it, how is it cooked as well as how to eat it), reservations can be made through this no. : +65-62207069, reservations have to be 3-4months early(no walk in), because it is booked whole year round and the restaurant has only 4 tables.
The restaurant is at Bugis, should be a 10-16 course meal, reservations are by per table only. About 2-4k per table, depending on the menu.
Fantastic servings, fantastic variety and fantastic food.
DTF xiao long baos bery salty.
