The Chinese term for shark fin soup is "yuchi (fish wing)" soup.By right, it should be "yuqi (fish fin)" soup.The Chinese don't know the mysterious wrong term used for the soup!
Acutally shark fin has little taste.I think the shark fin soup tastes quite similar without shark fins.IChefs can come up with other soups or use other ingredients such as abalone or fish meat in place of shark fins for the shark fin soup.I suggest the expensive shark fin soup be replaced by the expensive bird nest soup which can be taken at the end of the dinner.
I suggest the govt ban the imort of shark fins.

Originally, people eat Sharks Fin for the mouth feel but these days the lousy quality sharks fin have no mouth feel at all :x Might as well not eat

Other people who told you that they just fish for shark then cut the shark fin and throw back in the sea is crap !!! that is what they want you to believe - which is a very small percent. A lot of the fisherman would rather catch other better meat fish, but if they caught shark, well they will sell and eat their meat also !!!

There are 2 good proposals in pg 1:
1. Two memebers suggested to make the prices of shark fin soup very high.It can be achieved by the govt impose a heavy tax on shark fins or the govt imposes a rule that the shark fin soup must be sold at a certain minimum high price.So it would depend on how high the price of the soup is fixed that determine the effectiveness of the measure.
2. A member suggested banning shark fishing.To implement this proposal requires international cooperation or the work of the relevant world organisation.
Both suggestions can work.The 1st proposal is easier to implement.
How many ppl suddenly stop eating shark's fin after they took up scuba diving. How many for these (ASFA) anti-shark's fin avocates actually care for the enviroment.
I feel a lot of these ppl became ASFA just to be in the so call ' IN ' group. How many of them care abt global warming, try to recycle use lesser plastic products, lessen pollution.. etc. Without a proper enviroment for the marine ecosytem to flourish, sharks which is at the top few levels of the food chain will suffer too. As the ocean temperature increases, coral reefs will decrease and soon Divers will just dive to see sharks swimming ard dead corals .. wondering where is their 'natural' food source.
I love the sea and is planning to take up scuba but i DO eat sharks fin on very rare occassions. Its all abt self control. Remember most species or marine life including SHARKS can survive in marine parks reserves where poaching / finning / syninde fishing is controled but there is nothing preventing the temperature in the marine reserve from increasing.

Yes there is just very small number of fishermen - the catch sharks for their fins.
But what the crap brain is yours !!! to imagine - that lots and lots of specialised ships and boats go out to sea to catch sharks only .... yep they catch shark only - cut their fins and throw then back in sea ... if they catch any fish ... also throw them overboard. As must have space for valuable shark fin only. Hello if there is so many ships and boats the do that like what your crap brain thinks - then you just crap the shit out of things - so many sharks out there to support so many ships and boats that they only take shark fins and nothing else ....... !! It is amazing that we eat fin of such a large & fierce fish.But i think the shark meat is not nice to eat.
