SINGAPORE: Two more hawker centres are getting an overhaul under the Hawker Centres Upgrading Programme.
The centre at Block 11, Telok Blangah Crescent closed on Monday, and
will cost S$4.5 million to renovate, while the one at Blocks 1, 2 and 3
Commonwealth Drive closes on March 1 and will cost S$2.4 million to
upgrade.
They are slated to reopen in the first quarter of next year.
The National Environment Agency (NEA) says that more than 150
stallholders will benefit from the upgrading of the two centres, which
are both about thirty years old.
The upgrading will improve the environment of the hawker centres,
provide better ventilation, and will also have ramps for the disabled
and elderly.
NEA currently manages 109 hawker centres and to date, 71 hawker centres have been upgraded under the programme.
