I think the standard is far from the old days I will say a drop by as much as 60-70%. At Boon Tat Street it was the best but now there are several others that surpass the current standard.

Hokkien Street is near Pickering Street.
Amoy Street is called ma chor keng ao or eng choon huay kuan in the old day. The part near the food centre is called sian chor keng which is still around. The part from Cross Street to Pekin Street is called ngee ho kao (Free School).

The sad thing is some of the nice food we are eating now will no longer be available once the present owners pass on for they find nobody to pass their business to.
What a shame

A lot of food had been extinct and good cooking now give way to new styles some good and mostly not so good.
I miss the food of old days. Just can only savour from memories.
