AMK Hub commemorated its fifth anniversary on 1 Sep 2012 with the largest taiyaki display. Taiyaki is a popular Japanese waffle pancake shaped like a sea bream and filled with sweet fillings. The fish is an auspicious symbol for Japanese because its name includes a part of the word ‘medetai’, which means happiness or goodness. 5,555 pieces of taiyaki were formed into a gigantic 4m by 7.5m taiyaki to wish shoppers happiness and prosperity.

Don't call it a taiyaki, unless its one piece.

SINGAPORE - Ang Mo Kio (AMK) Hub secured the record for "The Largest Taiyaki Display" in the Singapore Book of Records for its 6m by 8m display.
The display, which was made up of 5,555 pieces of Taiyaki, took 21 people approximately 31.5 hours to complete.
Officiated by Mr Seng Han Thong, Member of Parliament for Ang Mo Kio GRC, the record breaking event is the fifth consecutive time that the mall made a successful entry into the Singapore Book of Records.
Together with Mr Lim Kok Guan from Mercatus Co-operative Ltd and Ms Christine Lee from SIN Fish, they marked the launch by playing the last three pieces of Taiyaki on the display.
The display was showcased at the launch of the mall's fifth anniversary celebration on Saturday, September 1.
With a donation of $5, shoppers were given the opportunity to try their hand out at making Taiyaki at the Taiyaki-making workshop which kicked off on September 1 and will be ongoing until September 9.
All proceeds from the Taiyaki-making workshop and the Taiyaki sale on Saturday will go towards The Woodbridge Hospital Endowment Fund.
"The strong support we have been receiving over the years for our record-breaking efforts is heartening, and we look forward to organising more such events in future," said Mr Andy Kau, Centre Director of AMK Hub.
