Boon Tiong Kee - Prices go up, Standards come down

Very displeased with their high charges.
At the Bt Timah outlet, they even try to disguise by serving drinks in wine glasses with lots of ice.
Wait till you see their rice serve on plates in TRIANGULAR forms (like Bak Chang).
Where are the traditional bowls and chopsticks ?
Chilli not free flow but serve and think serving dishes. Eat's up with that ?
The rice tastes worst than white plain rice. Not enough chicken stock unlike their standards previously.
At Balestier Branch, wat's up with the table cloth at the Balestier Branch. Makes them look expensive.
Takes many years to build the name and only a bad move to spil it all.

i do like the chicken rice there, but won't go becos of the price.
balestier is the one i do go.. on the rare occasions that i do. -

sometimes my mum buys 5star, right beside boon at bukit timah -
i dun eat chiken rice outside though.. cuz i'm Hainanese and my dad makes superb Chicken rice

triangular rice? lol, are they trying to do it jap way, like onigiri?
if make it round i still can accept becoz the trad hainanese chicken rice is serve in round balls.....
well, i only ate their chicken rice once, at the outram branch.
so-so lah, dun rem anything really special, even the chilli is not as hot as i expected.
i only rem their fried toufu, served with mayonaise, tat's really yummy!
and, i still prefer chicken rice cooked by my mum, catered to my liking mah

agree with topic...
u wan to try some other chicken rice can try go lucky plaza mah.. 2nd or 3rd floor cant rmb.. at the back row of building.. taste nice..
and far east plaza... top level... bery nice.. -
the BTK at East Coast Rd pretty decent, opposite the big church, umm Holy Family i think .....
staff there are friendly and portions generous too -
Read it from a Dilbert book. People remember good food from the amount of the portions. The more generous the better.

Takes many years to build the name and only a bad move to spil it all. the chicken rice along the shophouses opposite Katong Mall is very good. forgot the name. and no. i don't sell chicken rice. i think the rice and chilli are just as important as chicken and i don't mind if their chilli not free flow because i eat a lot of their chilli indeed. chicken rice sellers may not be able to keep up the high prices if bird flu isn't controlled soon. -

or Ang Mo Kio Central's Black Sauce chicken rice in the hawker center next to posb?

Went to the one near tiong bahru.
They serve us uncooked chicken...
so i aproach the waitress...
she went to MICROWAVE the chicken... i was like WTF.
I pay the price to eat the Boon tong kee famous tender chicken and u farking go mircowave it?
so ...
I complained.
The waitress unhappily say " Give you discount la"
................... discount so wat? after that i never eat Boon Tong Kee again -
i can't speak for the rest of the branches but i know the HQ at balastier rd is pretty gd. I have eaten there since i was in primary sch. I know the old "grannies" who still work there.
They used to serve me, now they seldom serve; they do the washing and cleaning up, replaced by the younger malaysians. Still the service is reasonable.
I admit the portion per bowl of rice has gone down but the chicken is still plump and juicy. Their you2 cai4 and gizzards are as good as ever, portion has not changed.
I do know that if you eat after 930pm, the half chicken cost $2/- more than the usual price. Besides that, of course the rational thing is not to stick to a single brand name.
Try other chicken rice brands which are good like Kampung chicken (chicken house along thomson rd near thomson plaza), wee nam kee opposite novena church etc -
kampong chicken less oily, meat more lean.....
hey, but shouyldnt you be cutting down on chicken given the current situation
