WE THANK Mr Nicholas Aw ('Public loos'; Jan 5) and assure him and the community that the National Environment Agency will factor in the needs of people with disabilities in the review of our Code of Practice on Environmental Health. To this end, we will be working with the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) to look into accessible toilets.
Under the Building Control Act, building owners or occupiers should not remove, alter or obstruct any physical features of the building that have been approved and built for people with disabilities.
Hence, the BCA would like to remind building owners and occupiers that these accessible features, including those provided in toilets, should not be modified and made non-accessible during the operation hours of the buildings.
