Education, is it really neccessary?
Which of the stalls in the coffeeshop do u think will earn the most?
Coffeeshop owners? All they have to do is to setup a drink stall, collect rents and they can earn a lot more than many of us here.
Or chicken rice sellers? who can easily afford a merz than those who works in office with a degree or a master?
Or Wan Ton Mee sellers? who wears gold rings, gold chains and gold necklaces mroe than other people?
Are they really educated people? Do they also have a piece of paper like many of us but decided to open a coffeshop and work in a hot and noisy environment rather than sitting comfortably in the office?
Or, they are just the ones with not much education but they are lucky enough to have the capital to open up a coffeeshop?
Someone told me, he knew a friend who carrys rice sacks those days in boat quay (oh well, those were his days, so, it's obvious that he's not ard our age!). How much do u think they can earn? One who is very poor and with no education at all?
He's lucky. He's rich now...even richer than his boss who hired him. His boss likes him a lot and gave him a lot of work to do, followed by management level of work. How many people can get such luck?
Is education really necessary? Somehow i felt that only those with good academic results will excel. Those with no education, but has the luck will also excel.
How about those with good education but still sits in the office earning $2K to $3k per month? Even a cook in the coffeshop can earn more than them!! (those Zi Char stalls)
No such luck? Too bad..
Maybe i should consider setting up a chicken rice stall..
But of coz, business must be good. or else, it will definitely close down in 2-3 mths time, considering the fact that money has to be spend on helpers, rents, etc.
Sometimes, i wish i can go and interview those stall owners and have a deeper understanding of each and their individual life stories.

Well, I believe if you are willing to work real hard for anything, with or without a paper qualification doesn't matter.
But of course, to get an "air-conditioned" job, a paper qualification seems to be the basic essential for most jobs I know. -

Every work has it's good and bad,can anyone tell me any job where the guy goes to work,sleep and does not do even anything except go toilet and eat lunch and yet get pay?heehe

Your economic worth is in your knowledge, not the piece of paper. And just because you have a piece of paper does not mean you have the knowledge. This fact is compounded by dubious firms which advertise distance learning degree/diploma programs with attractive bylines like "complete your degree in 1 year" or "register now and get a discount". To me they are just selling the piece of paper for a modicum of effort on the students part. The majority of the SAF units are siong and only a minority are lobo.If you get a lobo unit,then you better be thankful,but the majority are siong,so the chances of getting a lobo unit is very slim.I think managers are a lot better than those people in lobo units.Just hold meetings and talk nonsense and still get pay a lot more than people in lobo units,heheheOriginally posted by Simon the Snow Blower:You only mention the main one where people see. Aiyah screw the SAF lah! Churra, no need to worry so much about hawkers driving Mercs, wearing gold jewellery and living in private houses. They cannot possibly be the majority what. If not, everybody would also want to be hawkers right?
Besides, no need to be hawker also can earn a lot of money. Just open up a really cool and hip eatery, serving lousy food but selling really cool and hip stuff like T-shirts and mugs, and charging really uncool and unhip prices. You can see all that happening downtown anyway. $5 for lousy branded coffee? $13++ for lousy 'healthy' food served in minuscule portions? Chou chee bye ah! I heard that your unit is already one of the relaxing unit? I heard that your units have lots of people doing nothing. Army unit are siong only during their training period. Their unit wouldn't siong for 365 days a year. Even if their unit are siong, they wouldn't siong throughout their lifetime. Majority of their time still quite relaxing. You only manage to see the surface. I suggest you go find out more before shooting out your mouth here. Don't keep blowing so much. You always got a lot of comment on other people post. CRAP LAH.
#1 - Not all kopitiam owners earn money, some only can make do wif daily life.
#2 - Not all chicken rice stalls can haf merc, only really good sellers.
#3 - Paper Qualification is no good? den u better dont study and try working for 10 years, you might get a starting pay of 1200 (+5% multiply by 10) and probably near to 2k... if U R LUCKY. it's 1 out of a 100000 that gets a raise yearly.. If u study till degree, yer starting pay = 2k n above. u save the years 10 of them and you might not have to work that hard.
#4 - Paper Qualification always means advantage. You can hop around jobs, and get paid nearly the same.. Experience dont, when u haf totally no paper qualification. And people with paper qualification can do easier jobs than those w/o.
#5 - Yes you gotta work hard, BUT a paper qualification is a better investment than a kopitiam, considering kopitiam had to be maintain and faced serious competitions. Working hard + Paper qualifications will get u further than just those who had nothing. You try an office work and see how many hardworking office boys get promoted to be managers and how many executives get promoted to managers.
Qualifications does make a big difference.
Application of your quali does make a little more difference.
Diligence does make a big difference.
Luck does not make much difference.

Manager are relax? That is small little amount you saw. The small amount of people chatting in IRC you so bothered, yet you are not bothered by your CO surfing net everyday.
