I need help with SPSS....

  Anyone here use the SPSS program before? Statistical Package for Social Sciences...
  
  Just want to ask..if i input all the data into the program, and click Analyse, then Tables, then General Tables, suppose to get a table
  
  but i got this message
  
  Warning: Column, Width or Layers in this table is zero. Command is not executed.
  
  How the heck do i get ard this, considering in my variable table, my column and width is ok...

  when you key in the values into each column, have you first indicated on the top column that this is an independent variable, a dependent variable, a nominal scale and such?

  SPSS is an analytical tool. If you are just doing tables and charts, you should use a spreadsheet program, eg Excel.

  i will be using Excel later for presentation, and charts but otherwise, i am required to use SPSS to generate the tables and cross tabs

  i am not sure about the independent or dependent variable part, but at the rightmost of my variable table, my data is all clicked as on nominal scale....

  If I am correct, a nominal scale is one where you assign a range of readings to a point in the scale. Eg. Age0-10 is assign to 1, Age11-20 is assign to 2 and so on...
  My software is at home right now, will update you further later in the evening...

  Too long never use liao.. But if I'm not wrong, it could be something about SPSS recognising your data as a certain form it can't process using certain functions...

  hmm, but i checked with my lecturer..my data is in the correct scale, which is nominal
  
  but the problem is getting the table up, and the output file says my column, width or layers is zero...
  
  and i dont know what it meant.....
