Life in a poly for u kiddies...wat to do and not to do....

just graduated from sp last semester just wanna give my insights..
ure first ever semester...more often than not....
1.You are overcome by suakooness...
2.Unsurprising that u might get lost in ure first week...
Year 1
Poly life is pretty relaxed...throughout my 3.5 years in it....teaching staff teaches/treats u like adults...the best advice a lecturer gave me during this time was...'Poly is unlike anything u ever experienced b4...in primary school, ure parents look after ure studies....in sec school, teachers look after ure studies....over here, u will learn that onli u are responsible for ure diploma...u either slack and waste ure time...or u work for good results'...Anywaes..classes were ok....first few weeks...attend everything...sooner or later skip here and there...and i think if i remembered correctly...it was the first and last time i played 3 hrs of carrom straight(exhausting leh).....get a cca if u want...if best...enter dragonboat for all u guys....training is tough...but u wont regret it....i played rugby throughout poly and was a member of the gym and fitness club(unofficial cos i didnt want to get tied down with watever meeting and pay their membership...)gerls basically enter anything u want....got a whole load of CCAs there....
Year 2
guess wat...voluntarily retained myself to pursue some other things on that year(failed maths...but when it was my last semester...i regret alot...cos my frens all grad and left me alone....but it was bearable)Year 2 is when u prolly pro in alot of stuffs...u should by now noe wat classes can skip...and noe the importance of tutorials and practicals(never skip them...lectures are ok...but these 2 are super important.)...It doesnt hurt to make frens with the right group of ppl...namely...
1.Teaching Staff
2.If can..the module coordinators..
3.lab technicians if ure course has any practicals...
and for all u kiddies out there....attachment is a bitch...hopefully u get somethin work/course related and ure superiors are nice...if u never work b4...prepare for a culture shock..my first attachment became an IT Exec trainee(repair guy..fix dumb idiots computer problems) in NTUC CLUB....2nd attachment made 'coffee'(Basically arh) at Singapore Tech(aerospace)(WTF)
Year 3
U should now have the mentality of 'Big fry' now and should be damn matured although i seen some still acting like freshmen...u should now be doing ure Final Year Project...My advice for all u kiddies......keep group members to a minimum and do it with someone u trust(too many heads not good in my opinion)....I've seen groups self-destruct midway through the project(some even when starting it) due to selfishness of group members....immaturity...ego...character clash...pure laziness(the 'Aiyah slack arh...can do later'Attitude')
watever it is....ure initial planning stage of ure FYP should be over by ure 1st term...so u got time to study for ure exams.....after the 1st term...u should be able to do the 'manual' work on ure fyp and type reports...in my opinion...FYPs were a nuisance if not done with quickly...
I wont lie to all u kiddies....polylife is easy if u play ure cards right....slacking is fine by me....but importantly....DO NOT FORGET THE FOLLOWING:
1.Do ure damn F-ing tutorials...
2.Be thick skinned abit...dunno u better f-ing ask....forget ure ego
3.Dont slack for 3/4 of the semester and mug for 1/4 semester....really not worth the sleepless nights
4.Exams are easy...provided u practice..practice...and practice...(my method was write watever i am supposed to remember again and again and again..greenpeace will prolly hunt me down for wasting so much paper)...
5.For all u maths weaklings...due to the fact that they provide formula books...please please practice...maths is easy...really...no joke....

Now for creature comforts....
dun be surprised u will get breaks ranging from 1 hr to 3hrs(my longest one i experienced was 5hrs)before the next class....
do anything u want lor...
can bum in library for u bookworms...
can go town jalan jalan even.......can even watch movies some times...
u can also have self-declared breaks...(pending approval of lecturer if u do it the right way......or u can go 'black ops' if doing the left way either by sneaking out...or just not attending.....)....if u intend to skip...and if the lecturer is not the one taking attendance....good if u have a fren who noes ure signature...doesnt hurt to make frens with class reps.....(think NYP use their matric card to mark attendance rite?)
poly is a good place to smoke too...especially in large ones like SP and NP....so many places to do it in...
oh yes.......remember to get student concession pass for bus......the mrt one not worth it due to the fact that it is limited to 4 rides a day........
1st week of every semester...please bring abt 50 bucks.....to get ure course books if needed...and ure semestral stuffs like stationery...notepads and watevernots......
foood........polys should have alot of food....from co-op shops for snacks...to bakeries.....to the number of food courts.....but if u still not satisfied...can go out eat.......SP and NP near town, adam road and clementi central....tp in tampiness......NYP can eat at yck,amk or bishan.....RP prolly town i think...later near causeway point..can eat wat u want....
in my opinion..going cheap is good...so when u and ure frens decide to go town(or any place) to waste ure time away...u got more money for ureself.... -

Registering into the poly
U guys prolly get ure enrolment things already.....
Remember to...
1.Fill up forms properly..
2.Apply student grants for all u singaporeans..
when u actually go there to apply.....the whole process actually takes like 30mins......
but dont be surprised u stuck there for 2 hrs.......
cos u have to go thru wat i called a maze of Poly Clubs.....they'd set up stalls and stuff and it reminds me of multi level marketing arh.....noisy is one thing..club members coaxing freshies to join...this and that..all the bullshit arh.....just join wat u think is interesting.....dun join bcos u kana force
here are a list of wat cca i found worth joining
1.Dragonboat
2.Sports like soccer...basketball...rugby...netball....
3.definitely track and field....
4.Gym club.......no need to waste 2.50 in club fitt....
if u wanna go for status.....join the department clubs.....if u get to be Vice president and above....u got 'people' to back u up......for example....
i knew a fren who was president of so and so club...never attend class...take maths exam for 30mins oni....eventually pass....somehow....
anywaes...the registration day should be enjoyable arh....good if u made frens then too...short talk here and there...... -

oh and if u r gonna skip classes try to ask someone to mark/sign ur attendence for u. if i m not wrong if ur attendence is below 75% u will be de-barred from ur exam. which means u will prolly fail and forward that module.

i never join any CCA in poly .......... too lazy
saw many of my frenz happily join CCA in yr 1 than slowly dissapear halfway .....
reach yr 2 even worst .. everyday is project deadline ....... rushing project .... cant even breathe liao where got time for CCA
reach yr 3 .... even worst .... old liao ....... plus getting more and more slack .... who the hell will care what is CCA ........... -

poly life is easy, take things easy and study for exams can pass liao
i dont quite enjoy my life in poly cos i feel like a old f*ck there, bascially the kids are much younger than me and i dont click with them much....what do you expect from abunch of teenagers?
anyway, dont skip pracs and tuts....if u really want to..choose wisely which pracs or tuts to skip...dont skip those important ones and DONT RETAIN! -
me also going to get my dip soon from SP.
hmm..year 1 and 2 can slack, but dun slack too much. at least study 2 weeks before exam if u want better than a PASS. maths is really easy loh

third year is very siong! at least for the 2nd semester..( me mechanical engineering). Y siong?? becoz of final year project. siong is due to lazyness to do the project. must choose ur teammates correctly, otherwise u will have a hard time.
rem to get gf(s) before leaving school.
so that ur school fees are not wasted. my formula is=> 6 semester * school fees = dip + gf(s)
