Its a balance between social and legal I suppose....
The government cannot intervene in domestic affairs, so they can't tell his wife. However, they just can't sit back and let him spread the virus knowingly, so they'll get involved when it affects others besides his wife.
Maybe thats why there's the new law that all couples expecting kids must go through HIV testing (this creates transparency, where all info can be made known to his wife). This way, the government is walking the fine line....they can't be accused of poking their noses in others' domestic affairs, yet they can't be accused of doing nothing to save lives. -
i saw this headline in the straits times today. more details in the new paper.
with AIDS spreading fast and furious i feel it is important for the govt to at least establish a law which will give them the right to keep the wives duly informed. it is only fair to the wives. -
It is fair, but it takes too much resources to implement and to enforce. Besides, divorce rates are probably going to shoot up.
To their credit, the government is doing something though. At bus stops, there are advertisements with large pictures of scantily-clad women and small text print to inform the public about the risk of contracting AIDS. -
I FEEL the government should
1) enforce all those ppl who are registering for their ROM dates, to provide a copy of blood test results to make sure that they are AIDS or HIV free.
2) make all pregnant mums to go for AIDS or HIV testing
3) let the wife know when her husband is detected with AIDS or HIV.

I feel this move is good as more guys are having affairs with other women.
Its just not fair that the women should get infected. -

Has anyone been for the HIV test? Damned scary....
After they take your blood, they tell you that they'll call you within a week. Then you wait and wait....and you wonder about all kinds of things....like "that time got some torn skin behind my fingernail, donno kenah any juice or not".
Then a ew days later, the call comes from the nurse, who tells you to go to the clinic to collect your results. You ask the nurse "is everything ok?". She says she won't tell....and that the doctor wants to see me face to face. Wah lau....that means not everything is OK lah???
By then, I'm scared shitless and try to get in touch with the doctor over the phone, but she's not available. So I rush down to the clinic, where she opens the lab test report (from a sealed envelope) and says "OK, everything is fine. Sorry, but we can only give medical test results face to face and not over the phone".
I tested twice so far, once in Feb 2004 and once just last month (March 2005). Still HIV negative so far....lucky.

yeah i think spouses should be told if their SO is HIV positive.

think i will go for a test when family planning bah....be fair to her and the child. ownself suffer nvm, dun pull ur wife down and make ur future son/daughter innocently bodai boji come into this world with such a disease when u can prevent it altogether
