where to catch caterpillar & butterfly?

need butterfly and caterpillar for my course assignment.
any idea where to catch one and the best time to catch it? -
I felt pity for the caterpillar buterfly.If each student catch 1 catter and but,i wonder how many innocent live will be sacifial for the whole calss of student.

Caterpillar to let the children observe the stages of growth and butterfly to let them see the concrete life object. And both will be released after the assignment.

from the expert (my lecturer) point of view, the best way a pre-schooler can learn is through real life experiences. And anyway, we are not torturing the insects, just to let them observe and after that release them.

u can go to the nature parks or reserves e.g. telok blangah, west coast...and see if you can catch...
used to see it often..but nowadays...

Hey don't kaobei lah. How many insects/snails have you killed? Think 'bout the food you eat everyday. The caterpillar and butterfly is for educational purposes. So what if one or two die?

Look for lime plants, they love lime plants. Always got my caterpillars from there.

Instead of bring butterfly or caterpillar to the class, why not bring the class to them. You can see instead behind the scene on sort of the whole breeding process of the butterflies and other insect 1st hand. If you think that suit you, you can arrange with the Singapore Zoo Docent, they can help you arrange a behind the scene tour of the fragile forest in Singapore Zoo, which they bring you to the breeding area of insects that is not normally open to public. There you can see 1st hand of different stages of butterflies growth. You can contact the docent at www.szgdocent.org or the singapore zoo directly.
Or you can ask help at http://www.naturia.per.sg, which too have all the information or expert you can sort help with. -
thanks for all the help!! I have found my caterpillar (on neighbour's plants) and someone told me that there's a butterfly trail behind Alexandra Hospital. Will be going there tomrrow.

teachers should go for lessons on how to care them first before deciding on getting them to show the children.

I kept a caterpillar when I was a kid before and it turned into a giant hideous looking moth.
Anyway my mum freaked out at me then because I was plucking the leaves off her plants to feed it, and it EATS a lot!!!! -

Im terrified of Butterflies.. Reminds me of 'Mi Li Ye'.. the butterfly drama serial I watch wen i was a kid. Right after the serial ended.. one butterfly 'stand' on my nose.. & I got this phobia after since. -
