Childrens, do you hate your father?

Happened to read a sad case on today's NewPaper about how a 60+ man slash his sleeping wife.. wife still alive but face scarred with stitches.. anybody who read the story may want to offer your honest opinion..
We do not know what happened through the years, based on the story, I really sympathise the man.. he's not insane.. he didn't plan to escape, he just didn't care anymore.. all because his wife and 4 grown-up children gang up against him..
Sorry, unable to reproduce the whole story here, this is just my interpretation: (those who know, please correct me if I've deviate from the facts.)
The couple was married for 30 years.. in his younger days, this man worked in the construction industry to bring up 4 chidren, 3 girls and 1 boy.. his hard work seems to pay off as his children are highly educated.. 1 daughter is a teacher, another working in a stat board, the son is a 2nd year undergrad.. (can't remember the other daughter)..
Recently this man lost his job.. at his age, i don't think it's easy to find another job.. Also, his children are grown up.. shouldn't they look after him? ok, fine.. the family made the unnecessary effort to 'outcast' him.. seperating cutleries, refused to cook for him, etc. we do not know if he retaliated..
According to the report, he spits and smoke in the house, but did not mention about him hitting his wife.. the family seems to hate him, but not fearful of him.. recently, the wife plan to divorce him.. he heard it from his brother during the chinese new year period.. Also, the family decided to buy a condo & move out without him.. the whole objective is to isolate him.. one night he returned home & unable to take it anymore, took a chopper & start slashing his wife while she's sleeping.. he just wanted her to die regardless of the consequences.
Now, my thoughts are, how can the family dump him like that? after making use of him to bring up the children & having them pass through universities with proper jobs, they should at least take care of him, especially his old age which is not easy to find a job.. why do they hate him so much? he could have some bad habits, but then, who's perfect?
He's their own father.. this man must be feeling very sad to have such children, but then they are still his children, that's why he didn't slash his children.. I would certainly like to hear the children's side of the story.. after having a good education and having good jobs, why do they hate the father so much?
This man is devastated, he's finished.. he lost his family and now he's going to jail.. he could have retired happily.. what went wrong? I hope he's got good lawyers to help him get a lighter sentence, even then, he's already lost his whole family.. sad....

if your wife and children don't take care of you, does it give you the right to slash their faces? you only saw the superficial story, who knows what he did to make them hate him so much. people don't hate their fathers without a reason my dear caramon.
besides, violence against women and children is the most B@st@rd thing a guy can do.
by the way, it's "children", not "childrens". -

That probably explains why many men are more willing to divorce their wives than to give up custody of their children.
