Downloading? Does it actually "cost" the studios?

well, the studios say that if i download a movie, they just lost the price of a ticket at the cinema...
i say it's hogwash...
if i don't download it, would i actually watch it in the cinemas?
probably not... coz some movies are pretty crap and we just download for the heck of it.. maybe to watch to see if it's any good.. usually it's not.. but i sure as heck won't pay to watch a movie if i think it's not worth the money...
so.. are the studios really "losing" so much money?
or are they refusing to face their own faults?
kinda pissed off coz the studios just sued a whole pile of uni students in the US -

If there's no downloading....nobody will watch..
Just like what pple did when during the 60's when there's no downloading available...peeping at cinemas..sneaking inside etc..
they are suing based on what they calculate is the opportunity cost..

common sense right, if everyone can just download, then people wont visit cinemas anymore. if u dont go cinema, still got other people will go cinema if they dont get to watch it for free.

but the studios will prob lose out in DVD/VCD sales...
so you could say tat they lost money to downloading...
but then i feel tat since i've paid to watch in cinema...

i dont think it actually "cost" the studios. if a movie is good, i will definitely wanna catch it in the cinema with all the effects and stuff. if it's just an average movie, i will prolly juz download it. i wont be going to the cinemas for an average movie. unless it's just to kill time.

pple download because they already decided that they don't want to pay the ticket price, and if they don't want to pay the ticket price, of course they will not watch in cinema even if they don't download.
