Qing Ming...

last sat, i visited my wife's great grandma and grandma's grave with her family and relatives...we did the usual thing...cleaning, offering of food and incense, her mum and aunties cried and then they asked for 4 digits...huh? 4d? i'm like, Qing Ming is an occasion where we visit our loved ones who passed away, clean up their 'resting place' and burn offerings to show them that they are not forgotten?
instead, i see a few of them were eager to ask for 4 numbers to place bets on, one of her aunty even requested that she be blessed everytime she gambled...not that i'm really against that, but the way they are going about it irks me...and shouts of "HUAT AH" "HUAT AH" can be heard from other ppl praying...funny...are they there to be blessed with luck or what?

When my grandmother died, there were the usual funeral rites conducted in the temple, including the chanting of prayers, etc. The whole ceremony lasted for 2-3 hours......and towards the last part, the monk actually drew some numbers and said that my grandmother was helping by giving us those numbers to bet with.
Yes, and the monk also asked my uncle (grandmother's only son) to shout "huat ah!".
We felt that it was a bit silly, but what the heck....this was at a funeral, so we just kept quiet and my uncle just tried to comply without looking too stupid. -

speaking of burning paper money, have you guys checked out the gadgets they have for the dead? my family bought laptops, canned abalone, medical kits and canned drinks for my late sister...then, there are sports shoes, beer, perfumes and so much more...plasma tvs, dvd players and even dim sum!Originally posted by FireIce:i rber and love them in my heart
