i intend to join the Fitness first in SingaporeaOriginally posted by kops21:I go gym, but not Fitness First....
No idea abt gym oversea, i believe that all gyms are similiar just that each have their strength and weakness.
Monday i go and ask those gym choibus about Fitness First.![]()
the first thing abt joining a gym, must be convenience...no point looking for one that is good, but it is out of the way. Most probably you will give up going when the going get tough.Originally posted by Faye Valentine:i intend to join the Fitness first in Singaporea
or to say, i am interested in joining a fitness club and is now seeking for advises
I've done some research and most of the fitness centers are pretty near where i stay... quite centralized.Originally posted by kops21:the first thing abt joining a gym, must be convenience...no point looking for one that is good, but it is out of the way. second, the "kind" of gym you are interested to join. some prefer lessons, some prefer machines, some prefer spas etc. what are your interested?
1 colleague using her credit card(that have free 2 times per mth) entry to certain gyms, just hip hop non stop throughout the month and pay nothing. But one thing for certain, those "sales" person, will pester you....some are pretty hardcore, anyway, she has way to deal with them.
i know theres bound to be a reply like thisOriginally posted by coffeeortea:hmm.. im not trying to be an asshole but i find that when it comes to fitness and stuff like this.. i'd rather do it and maintain my fitness myself =).
thanks for the advises.Originally posted by gentlerock:Hi Faye,
Sorry, this is not a direct answer to your question on FitnessFirst.....but since you now say that you're interested in joining a fitness club, maybe I can throw in some views.
I was with Planet Fitness Suntec with a year (and still have access now to the Suntec branch on one-day passes). I was never with Fitness First.
Basically, there are three well-known players here - Fitness First, Planet Fitness and California Fitness. All are basically the same in terms of atmosphere (yuppy, semi-friendly), except that California is more crowded and with more pushy sales staff too. Never heard anything bad about the other two.
On a not-so-upscale level, there are also community centre gyms, private gyms, etc....most of which have some sort of aerobics too.
The "Body" type aerobics (Body Combat, Body Pump, Body Attack, etc.) can be found everywhere....its 'invented' by a New Zealand based company called LesMills (www.lesmills.com) and they licence instructors to teach them worldwide. In Singapore, these instructors are mainly free-lancers who teach at every gym (so you MAY see the same faces whichever gym you join). Most gyms have these "Body" type aerobics....and I believe they are on a fixed schedule, so you'll go through the same steps at any gym anywhere in the world at any one time (they change their steps every few weeks and label it Body Attack. For example, the whole world will do Body Combat 1 from Jan-Feb 2001, Body Combat 2 from Feb-Mar 2001, and so on and so forth). Its all activated by LesMills in NZ...they say change, the whole world changes.
Being an ardent gym-goer for the past....er....very many years, I have seen so many times that one person likes a certain gym, but another can hate it. Feelings and impressions are subjective and hard to describe in words. Best is to see/feel it for yourself. Most gyms will give you a free trial period (eg. 7-day trial period) if you just ask them. I would recommend taking advantage of this to get a first-hand feel of each for yourself (after all, its a reasonably big investment for the average person like me).
Good Luck!
PS: You can see Planet Fitness aerobics schedule here in pdf format http://www.planetfitness.com.sg/downloads/scheduleAprJuly05.pdf
PPS: Fitness First schedule are here in html format, although I suspect you've already viewed it http://marketing.fitnessfirst.com.sg/Timetables/Timetable.html
i choose the gym based on my workplace...knowing my lazy attitude, i do my gyms during lunch timeOriginally posted by Faye Valentine:I've done some research and most of the fitness centers are pretty near where i stay... quite centralized.
I prefer lessons, esp those that offer Body pump...steps... or some cardio related lessons.
Not too sure about the fees because they keep changing and coming out with different schemes and promotions. Typically, Planet Fitness would be approx. $1000 per year (much cheaper if you join long-term, like 3 years at a time). California Fitness is cheaper on an equal-basis comparison).Originally posted by Faye Valentine:thanks for the advises.
Yup i've viewed the Fitness First timetable
I was with Planet Fitness back in 1999?... didn really go for the classes then. but the enviroment there was not too bad.
Been to calfornia fitness too... the whole place looks like a pub to me. Kinda see n be seen scene
Which is why i wanna try Fitness First...
How abt the fees?
