See the annual world ranking of Unis by ShangHai JiaoTong Univ since 2003

which is very well regarded world wide BUT was not even mentioned in Singapore Papers because NUS and NTU ranked outside 100! out of world top 500 Unis!
this is a very good result already but because S'pore media and govt want people to believe that NTU and NUS are the best in the world (top 20, beating even Cornell and other top world unis), they used the UK Times Higher edu supplement ranking which was conducted ONLY for the 1st time and affected largely on how many foreigners a uni accepted - without considering the quality of the foreigners.
Hence RMIT of Australia can be ranked 55 and NUS can ranked top 20 in some category!

I agree that NUS having a high ranking is BUllShit, but the shanghai jiaotong one is not totally unbiased too, almost all the top 20 spots are all taken by US unis.

NO RANKING is 'perfect' in that criterias affects the outcome,
but just don't over-skew the greatness of NUS and NTU just b cos they are located here!
frankly speaking, UK started the Times Higher Edu supplement cos in many world ranking, they lost out greatly to US Unis, so if you look carefully at that Times High Edu ranking, a number of UK top 20 Unis are back in top 50, hence we can also say that the ranking is made to reduce the 'greatness' of US unis or elevate the status of UK Unis - compare to SHJT's top 100, the difference is quite obvious.... -

Engineering and Science wise, NUS is not up there.IF you read the Times UK supplement, under the Arts and Social Sciences Uni..its shown.Though I have t o agree that there is no way we can be better than Princeton or Cornell, it's outrageous. -
