I'm serving NS, so I basically spend every weekend waiting for the dreaded book in. Sigh..still got more than one year to go...

wah.. not bad. so many of you responded asking about volunteer work.
for me, my interest is in working with youths. so i am currently volunteering with mcys (probation services branch), the boys' home (though i have stopped for awhile cos of work), gracehaven (providing tuition weekly) and student care service. as you can see, my "targets" are youths-at-risk, and youths who have committed some form of crime.
other than these, there are alot of other areas which one can volunteer in, with various levels of commitments required, e.g. working with children, with children having terminal illnesses, with old folks, providing tuition, etc.... basically, if one has an interest in volunteering, there is really no fear of not being able to find an area to volunteer in! and one does not need to worry that volunteering means taking up large portions of your time - although this is welcome, one can certainly choose volunteer opportunities that either require less physical commitment, or are adhoc.
i think the nvpc website is a good place to start if you are interested.
and do remember that volunteering also benefits oneself too - it widens one's social circle, enables one to pick up certain life and people skills, and of course, gives one a sense of satisfaction. -

people who do volunteering work do gain something. it's something i would call it as "invaluable experiences" that will gain us insights, enlighten us in ways and also to deal with things with more maturity.
i would say it's "reciprocative" because volunteering is a 2-way interchange. When you have provided help to someone who is in need, unknowingly, you have already receive your share in another way. It's not just experiences, enlightenment and maturity, I would say it's also a kind of self-esteem as people generally feel better after helping another person. -
i will always spend my weekends (if i gt nithing to do) by the sea, can go island hopping, sailing, kayaking, try some new kayaks. tok cock with friends. fly kite. earning extra money.
so basically i think my weekend is too short. not enuf time to rest. -
I guess it kind of goes down to the "comfort zone laid back approach to weekend"
For once if u r willing to try (or bothered to) activities like cycling, strolling in beaches, park to the more thrilling ones like wakeboard surfing, diving
Of cos u will have to adjust ur mental perception and open to new concepts.
Though last but not least, if u have the dough, watever just bring on the stuffs -

so, now, cut down to 1-2 hours per week in total.
