hard disk probs, pls assist

my WD 80GB HDD cant work on the com when plugged in, internally, bios detects it but the com hangs when the boot up displays "updating DMi pool data" or "updating DMi pool data....successfully updated"
though i managed to transfer files into it a few days back, suddenly it cant be detected on My Com, com mgmt says it's unallocated. how can it be ?

First, I'll probably try to back up the data. Perhaps you can do this, by booting up through another hard disk and transferring the data to it because sometimes even though you can't boot up through that hard disk, you can still access it.
Then, boot up through the Win XP cd and go to recovery console. Run chkdsk. Run the fix boot record and master boot record, just in case the boot record got messed up due to improper partitioning.
Then, reboot. If cannot, then most probably the hard disk is not functioning anymore. Can try reformatting I guess. I know the computer shops have a diagnostic program to check whether the hard disk is still functioning but I forgot what it is. I think can google for it.
If confirm dead, check warranty. -
if u dont mind, u can always spend hundreds of dollars to ask a professional to repair the hardisk for you. if your hardisk is seriously Fucked, it might cost up to thousands of dollars to repair.

hmm are you having more than one hard disk now? if its so, maybe ur power supply cant support that extra peripheral. or maybe u didnt set ur master/ slave config properly?
not too sure if i am right but theres no harm doing some checking and testing.

hey having problems wif ur HDD bring down to SLS for a check at level 6 Esys shop. Is ur HDD under warranty? IF yes bring down there, If Not forget about checking buy another 1

i bought it like....5-6 days ago?
the HDD is ext 1...got its own power supply..
just that because it cant connect to the com...i tried plugging in internally, while taking note of the jumper settings.. -

Bring it to where you bought it and test it out. Now you want to make sure where the problem origin is from. Could be your comp or hdd. We don't know.

IDE cable connect properly or not, jumper set correct or not

You tried it on 2 systems yourself, it failed to work. What else could you deduce from that?

hopefully u never put any magnetic stuffs near your portable hdd or let water soak in, cuz it may have lost the data.
Else, go quickly to the shop to attempt a data recovery. Remember, under any circumstances, when they say have to format ur hdd, say no, try to recover the data first, cuz most shop people are lazy, the easiest way for them is always to format ur drive. -
But Western Digital is a very good brand... Least likely of all to spoil so fast
If you ownself troubleshoot cannot then bring it down to sim lim.. no point getting frustrated and then blood pressure increase -
