in Singapore..
2. On average a foreign worker spends only 10-20% of
his income in Singapore while a local worker spends 90%.
If a job goes to a Singaporeans, the multiplier factor
is 9 times that of a job going to a foreigner..
3. Most of the foreign worker's income is remitted back
home instead of being spent here..
4. The effect of this is a critical leak in our economy.. Because
of the high % of foreign workers, no other country have this problem as
serious as that of SIngapore..
5. An estimated $8B-$10B is remitted out of Singapore every
year.. We can't attract enough foreign investments to plug
this hole..
If you don't think this is serious, look at the falls in property since 1996.. A condo purchased at $750K in 1996 by my friend is worth no more than $430K today. We are put in a vicious cycle and economic funk that we cannot get out..
