How to survive in singapore?

My fellow people,
As a singaporean, I know is hard to survive in singapore without a good educational background. I've been having doubts if you really study in a pte school like MDIS, informatics etc. will the company going to employ you? I have some friends who are diploma holders really cannot find their desire jobs at all. Some of them ended up working in sales line (Not a long term job) My question is it so hard for teenagers without experience especially those men who need to serve their 2 years in national service. Anyone can share with their thoughts here ? how you feels ? -

I did a diploma and advance diploma in Informatics during my NS days... went to an overseas uni and completed my degree there afther that... worked overseas for a few years and now I'm back in Singapore and I'm paid more than 8k a month as an IT manager for an MNC...Originally posted by thelesis:My fellow people,

I strongly believe that although the school you get the paper from does, to some extent, matter. What you do with that paper after that matters even more. -

That's why goverment keep asking singaporeans to upgrade themselve because in singapore, everyone is so kiasu that most of people having trouble to cope with their life. That's why many people don't choose to get married cause only adding their burden & stress. Do you guys agreed with me ?

There is always difficulty no matter what your educational level is. Non-graduates will feel that they are not qualified enough to challenge the graduates for jobs. Graduates, on the other hand, will feel that employers won't favour them because some other non-grad can do the same job for a lower salary. Just like there are grads and non-grads who do well....there also some grads and non-grads do fail badly in their careers.
Having said that, the majority of Singaporeans are still doing OK what....I see so many cars on the roads, so many people carrying handphones more expnesive than mine, so many wearing clothes which are beyond my budget, etc.
Now that times are bad, everyone has problems with jobs - be it grad or non-grad, experienced or inexperienced. But times are never (hopefully) always bad and will improve again. Oh, come on....whats a little challenge in life, eh?
I've had difficulties in looking for jobs, have been retrenched before, etc....but I'm back on my feet again and doing OK now. When knocked down, take some time to recover if you have to....but ALWAYS bounce back fighting hard and smart.
You know what the hottest jobs in town now are?.....Learn to deal cards, learn to spin the roulette wheel and throw the ball, etc. I also wanna learn...anyone know where got such courses or not? Honours degree in dice throwing, shuffling cards, etc. -
Yes indeed. In singapore , Money rules. Without it, is so hard to survive. Don't mention about feeling because money still making your life going on.

Haha , thanks for goverment to create jobs for us.. I bet those gamblers are really interested in these jobs. anyway , you do had yr points there. Yes, seeing others losing jobs, etc will definitely get people worried. But thats something we can't help - and there's no way in this world where you can escape from this too. Yes too, those without the highest level of education may feel inferior in some way. But education is not only the only thing which people choose to pick on, if they wanna despise others. I know of grads who are looked down upon because their degrees are not prestigious ones, because their dressing is too suaku/nerdy, because of their family backgrounds, because of skin colour, nationality, etc etc....no matter, there will always people who admire you and there will always be people who despise you (and its not based on educational qualifications alone).
The old-fashioned thinking that graduates always have stable careers simply doesn't not hold true anymore. -

you gotta see masters in what and whether that university is renowned in that particular field and also, the person's own capability, you can get a phd from harvard and still end up jobless if you're really useless but of course harvard doesnt admit pure bookworms with elephants memory and nothing else but what im saying is that the qualifications are like a passport, it provides you with access to the working world, what you do and where you end up the moment you pass that checkpoint depends totally on yourself.Originally posted by dzylim:education sure garantee fob meh? my fren got a master degree from local uni also cannot find job. -

Always answer "I am poor in my chinese, but I am practising reading Zhao Bao every day now to up my chinese knowledge" or something towards that direction. Being poor in chinese doesn't make you disadvantagous in most jobs, but its still a weakness. It is a weakness that most interviewers are ok to take in.
2. Name one experience and what did you learn from it?
Just drama any experience whether its real or fake. No one knows! -

We are competing to ourself "ONLY"..... What other people can "Do", can "Own", can "Spend" does not equal "Yourself"
That's is natural. We feel inferior because it's inside us. Let go of this & the fears also goes away. Like the first time we learn to walk properly. Let go of that helping hand.
Comparing is good, keep it the healthy way.
Lower Educations does not equal no future. Just too many example around, searh for them. -
