need some help on PC..

i need some help, i juz bought a new HDD and CD-RW drive.. and i screwed up the slave and master data cables... now i duno wats wrong, i set HDD as slave and and CD-ROM and CD-RW as master, my PC keep hanging after on for like 5 mins... any1 know how to solve this? is it my master and slave for the drive all set wrongly??? my PC is P3 667, RAM 128mb .... running on win 98...

just connect the hard disk and CD drive to different SATA/IDE with their own cable loh ..
like dat least hassle.. -
Just redo everything. Do things one step at a time so you know what/where went wrong. Don't connect everything at the same time if you are new to all these. Add one thing into your computer and make sure it's running before adding another k. Hdd A(with your OS) - primary master
Hdd B(new addon hdd) - secondary master
the rest like cd-rom/dvd rom/cd rw/etc as slaves. -

is it CD-ROM and CD-RW muz be in slave mode??? -
Since you only have 1 HDD and 1 CD/RW drive...
just connect the HDD to your first SATA/IDE and the CD/RW to the 2nd one..
The master/slave setting is irelevant if only one device is connected on one cable.. -
u can take a look at the mainboard........ look closely u can see the label....
if u see the IDE cable connected to IDE 1 than this is for hardisk and connect it to the primary IDE ........ and set the jumper to master .....
the IDE 2 for you CD whatever ..... and set it to slave -

u got only 1 hdd and 1 cdrom/dc-writer rite?
wah lao who ask you to use up the 2 ide connection? just use one ide ribbon cable can oredi.
set hdd jumper to master, set cd-rom/cd-writer jumper to slave. connect the ide ribbon cable (the socket side to the pin conn) on the ide connector of your mainboard. the other 2 connection of the ribbon cable the primary connector go to the hdd and the secondary connector go to the cd-rom/cd-writer. take note of connecting the right way like dat won go wrong 1.
if still hand take out the cd-rom/ writer and tun with only hdd see how. most probabbly your mainboard p3 667 too old maybe ur hdd pata 7200 rpm and burner/rom too new or psu low on power or ram low. drivers/ updates for your mainboard or new added hardware may be needed..try the above mentioned step by step and report

there are alot of things to look at,
the ram,
the power supply
the cpu
the motherboard. -

So are your settings for the hard disk and CD-ROM correct?
If so, the hanging could also be due to your operating system (I presume it is windows?). -
