Modded PS2 questions & my views of the future Playstations.

As of 1st January this year, it's illegal for the shops to sell modded PS2.
As far as I know, it's illegal to sell them, what about buying them?
What if one buys a modded PS2 from JB, is it illegal? What about
those who have bought it before 1st January? Is it illegal to own them too?
As we don't really know much about the PS3 and after that, here's my
views on the PS3. It's only my speculations, so let me continue. Sony
might want to look into the game disc if they want to beat piracy.
Going by the PSP (Playstation Portable) technology, which uses a UMD
(Universal Media Disc) for its games. It is expensive & difficult to mass
produce. If Sony holds the rights to produce the UMD game discs for
the future playstations, we might see the decline of piracy in this area.
Like the Sony Mini-Disc which as far as I know I have not seen it being
pirated. Unlike the PS1 & PS2 which uses mass produced & cheap CD-R
& DVD-R for its games, these type of discs are more expensive & difficult
to mass produce but not impossible. -

its only harsdware modded PS2 illegal. What about the boot disc which can play P* wthout hardware modifications, does it still count?

if i not wrong i think i have read b4 in the straits times they r discussing about making it illegal to have mod ps2 in homes.then a lawery reply,if the rules is implied,then most of the singaporean will be criminal(something like that).

what about the boot disc
the boot disc does not *Modify* ps2 in the way they percieve as -
I don't even buy pirated CDs, yet I have a modded Playstation 2.
