Conducted by Panasonic Systems Asia Pacific (PSY) and the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA), the Panasonic-MDA Digital Film Fiesta is the largest and most ambitious talent hunt of its kind to be initiated locally.
The Fiesta comprises four components: National Scriptwriting Competition, Digital Short Film Competition, High-Definition Productions (for television series and feature films) and Fringe Events.
The comprehensive nature of the Fiesta from talent discovery and development, to production and showcase, sends out the challenge to our new breed of filmmaking experimenters: be adventurous.
Create works of distinction and personality; rethink storytelling; reinvent filmmaking; redefine the relationship between the idea and the audience.

National Scriptwriting CompetitionPreviously known as the MDA National Scriptwriting Competition, the Scriptwriting category is dedicated to helping scriptwriters hone their craft and find alternative access to the screen.
Filmmakers may submit either a 60-minute script for a television drama, or an 80- to 120-minute script for a feature film.
On top of cash prizes totalling S$36,000, commercially viable scripts stand a chance to be produced into High-Definition Television Drama series or Feature Films. Winners may also have the opportunity to work with the talented Jack Neo on such productions, using state-of-the-art technology.
The Scriptwriting Category is jointly presented by J Team Productions. The HD television drama series will be co-produced by J Team Productions and MediaCorp Studios.
Digital Short Film CompetitionShort Film – Open Category
The Open Category is for short films submissions under 10 minutes in length. There is no restriction on the theme or genre, but the film must be shot on the digital format. All films must incorporate the signature item for the 2005 Fiesta, a Panasonic logo, which can be featured in any creative manner. Filmmakers of all ages, professions and nationalities are welcome to participate.
Winning filmmakers stand to win product vouchers totalling S$16,000 in cash value.
Short Film – Professional Category
The Professional Category is for emerging filmmakers in Singapore looking to bring their interest to the professional level. Five filmmakers will be shortlisted to produce their short films under this category. They will be shortlisted based on: (1) a past short film they have created and; (2) a written treatment of a short film they intend to make, if selected.
The shortlisting deadline is April 2005, and selected filmmakers will have till July 2005 to complete their short films.
Some of Singapore's finest young filmmakers will serve as mentors to these filmmakers to guide them through their production. The five mentors include Royston Tan, Wee Li Lin, Tan Pin Pin, Sun Koh and Juan Foo.
In addition, resources such as DV cameras, lighting and sound kits, editing facilities and acting talent will be provided courtesy of our kind sponsors and partners.

Fringe ProgrammeThe Fiesta Fringe aims to address the pertinent topics that independent filmmakers in Singapore frequently struggle with today. We will be hosting a series of talks from May to July 2005, on topics such as crafting commercially viable stories, use of music in films, directing non-actors, copyrights and releases, and marketing yourself as an independent filmmaker. Experts in the field will share their professional insights and experiences with all interested participants.
