Do you think Singaporeans have too much of a herd mentality?

Ok guys...what do you think? We've been blasted, more by our own than by anyone else, taht we don't have much individuality. I see that happening alot these days.
People not knowing what the want, following the crowd. Even for important decisions like choice of poly/uni courses. I mean chasing trends is one thing but that to me is too much. Also, not enough Singaporeans are truly chasing they're dreams these days, even though more have the chance to. Do you agree with me? Or what are your views? -

Your dreams as in...breaking against social norms. It may not be something big like becoming the next Jay Chou or David Becks. Something more like...becoming a lawyer even though you haven't scored that well in school, things like that. Not everyone is an airhead...most people's dreams are firmly grounded in reality, but i feel sometimes a bit too firmly grounded.

Herd mentality is everywhere lah. People always need to feel secure in numbers, in cliques, etc. Problem is that it allows group mentality to take over personal characteristics and can be stifling. While being in a group provides confidence, its often a false sense of confidence.
There was a thread recently (yesterday, I think) showing a good example of this. The was a school boy who was in a herd and felt secure enough to poke fun at a 1.9m classmate who didn't do well in class. When he got beaten up, the news report didn't say that any of his friend helped him.
Herd mentality is especially obvious among young Japanese girls. They dress the same, talk the same, etc. When one says "sugoi"....everyone echoes "sugoi"...

A gd singapore example is the queing up of the mcdonald hello kitty soft toys. Everyone is crazy over tat dunno wats the point. Even old auntie also wanna join in this senseless thingy. My auntie go n que for a few hours n able to get the kitty but give it away to my sis tat dun even have the interest in hello kitty. Dunno wat r they thinking...
