  i think you are talking about red-eared slider turtle. Most locals would call them terrapins.
  
  i've 2. Named one Hippo and the other woody. Hippo because he loves to eat and Woody because he loves to hide.
  
  Guess one way is to observe your turtle. Decide for yourself his/her temperament. And the name will come to you.
