I share the same surname as my husband. We have been together for 25 years. My brother-in-law shares the same surname as his wife. They have been together for over 30 years.
In any case, I don't think a lasting relationship is influenced by surname. Well, at least not in my case. We grow in a relationship. The 25 years were not all smooth sailing. But we "grew" together (fortunately) with all the ups and downs that life threw at us. A strong sense of commitment.....I think that was our strong point. I do feel very blessed and am contented with what I am and what I have. -

My ex had the same surname as me.
My mother strongly object to our relationship, saying we could be related somehow...blah blah blah and could give birth to retards as the relationship could be somehow like incest.
My uncle was one such example. He married someone distant but somehow in his family tree. End up all his children are retarded or with down syndrome. sad case....
