Also don't know it's because recently I 'sway' or what, always kena spent meaningless $$$... Time is bad now lah... I don't mind spending $, but spending it on things which I don't even get any value out of.... Hmm....
Think there might be a growing trend lately to come out with 'LOUSY' business plans to 'trick' people's $$$... This is a thread DEDICATED for forumites to post some of such schemes they've personally came across, with friends experiencing, or heard of somewhere...
Let's all HELP each other to SAVE $ and AVOID such unnecessary 'tricks'..... -

HP RINGTONE, JAVA GAMES, WALL PAPERS ALERT!
Went through the newspapers lately and saw a ringtone which I really like... The advert states that it's $0.99 per download and requires WAP activation for HP... Hmm... I knew I might be having problem with my GPRS on HP, but I don't mind trying my luck for $0.99?
So I sent in for the ringtone I wanted... Then the sms replied. Needs to get through web download from HP.... And... It doesn't work for me.... Okie...
Then I received other smses.. Telling me I'm became a 'member' and it'll cost me $4.99 per month.. And even if I terminate asap, I'll still be charged with that amount THOUGH I did not use ANY of their 'member services'... In other words, cancellation of membership is not allowed (they'll at least charge you for one month's membership). I went back to go through the newspaper and indeed as I thought... There are small writings at the bottom of the page telling you about such an 'auto- membership'... DAMN... Should be careful next time when I'm not yet fully sober for the morning....
I admit my 'defeat' and just paid for a lesson learnt... Hereby, just wanna alert the rest of the people out there reading about this 'trick'... Good luck... -
I could start a long post about the music and movie industry ....but I'll just say that through piracy/p2p downloading and sharing, we consumers are giving them the finger! Read today's straits times digital life supplement

aunties who oni intended to buy $20 worth of grocery will buy a few other not-so-necessary items in the supermarket so she can get a free toothbrush (worth $2) with minimum purchase of $30

how many people you know actually drive down to somewhere far away to save a few dollars?
The petrol and parking cost did not cross their mind!

But its simply consumer discipline and also ppl like Devil that raise awareness -
But A discounted petrol is always worth it ... i would drive to there and wait if ever i have the time to waste...

yes is correct matically but do you really need all those extra thing u buy? most people is 'No'.
shopper habit can only be changed if the mindset / metality is changed.
as for petrol 'Q', there is quite ok as the amount of petrol buring while waiting is worthwhile compared to the % of saving but not if you drive all from east to bukit timah area just for the 5% discount right? -

yeah ... but somehow I've come to a realization. Money in hand is worth much more than having free gifts. I think after some painful lessons, one would start to be a bit more careful. Actually extra things hor, I have friends who don't need but just want to buy it to get the sensation of getting a bargain. She just love shopping and bargain hunting. Even if she does not need the item. Its just amazing .. -
