i guess that we have become very desensitized to violence and all these other happenings out in the world. in part i guess its beacuse of the fast changing pace of this world. now, its not about helping others. these days, its every man for himself, or what's in it for me.

In this day and age where the almighty dollar is king, large corporations and governments have abandoned social responsibility, our children are taught the meaning of cutthroat competition from primary school onwards, workers are used up and discarded like yesterday's rubbish in the workforce, it is no suprise that many have become selfish, callous even. The situation will not get any better.
Anyone remember the poor bugger lying down at the Singapore Island Country Club while club members drove or walked past without even bothering to help or alert the staff? -

Have we become so numb that we couldn't even be bothered to call for the police?

It is ironic that with the advance in communications technology to bring people closer together, the distance among men has instead drifted even further apart. -

You know whats even scarier? Whats even scarier is that anyone of us could be on that bus... its sickening but perhaps given this kind of situation would you have helped the bus driver auntie? Questions like what if the thugs kill you etc etc...

Assuming i survive the bus crash, i would definitely feel guilty. And I will wonder at the lack of my initiative to help... but if the same situation happen again would I help? How about if the thugs carry guns and warn against helping? I believe that the guns or not do not matter since the fear of becoming a victim yourself can overide your desire to help... then again I guess none of us can really comment since we are not in the actual situation but just reading about it over the net ... -

it just a sense of good in yourself and i guess many have lost that already. i may have lost some in myself to be honest but i believe not all yet.
but when it comes to that kind of situation, i think i'll still help the lady driver. just think of the odds, even if you live the bus ride, you will not come back without getting raped, beaten up, with no money, or not come back at all. chances are slim to come back "safe and sound" so i'll just help. if i manage to succeed, YAY, if not, i'll get harmed sooner or later, why not just sooner.
but all this is not true courage and "warrior-ism" it's still being selfish. you think of what's going to happen to yourself before you decide to act, well but at least it's able to get me to help. -

Its often a fact that these perpetrators KNOW they can get away and no one will stop them that they commit crimes like this. This is China and it is somehow always given me the impression that a life of any person is worth less than dirt. So some one said they target tourist which follows that these tourist might not have the time to see justice be done. Or they target certain women who are unable to bring justice to these men.
The other day I was watching some show. It said that 30-40% of men would violently rape a women if he knows he can get away with it. Its a high percentage already and I guess its higher when there are no social sanctions or pressures or even just people who care enough to take action. Weapons of mass destruction - is not those big nuclear warheads, but inaction, greed, lust, slovenly, racism and etc
