dun drive your car... take bus/mrt everyday...
then you see how a small increase in price will affect you... -

even when they do the calculations on the news, they use student rate to calculate......average oni increase $2+
why no use adult fare?
if u sit down to do the maths, u can see how much more u need to fork out just for transport alone per mth...... -
SBST says they take 2million trips a day...
average out the increase on the low side... say.. 1.5 cents per trip increase
that makes up about $30,000 a day of increased revenue with absolutely no corresponding increase in expenses
$30,000 a day makes up $10,950,000 a year...
that's nearly $11 million a year of increased revenue with no corresponding increase in expenditure..
that becomes $11 million a year in increased pre-tax profits

Orange buses belong to CSS, a subsidiary of Tibs (now SMRT Bus). PH-regoed buses are Scheme B buses. THey come in different types of livery.Originally posted by shinta:those buses that's orangish in colour? n nt tibs or sbs ar? -
i wonder if the transportation price gone unreasonably high till the point where the price can't accepted, citizens all dun wanna travel, dun wanna work, all stay at home evryday n dun use the transport as a form of protest, will all the citizen be charge by govt??

SMRT WITHHOLDS INCREASE IN TRAIN AND BUS CONCESSION FARES
FOR SENIOR CITIZEN EZ-LINK CARDS
1. The Public Transport Council (PTC) approved on Monday, 30 May 2005, the adjustment of MRT, LRT and bus fares with effect from 1 July 2005.
2. SMRT Corporation Ltd (SMRT) has reviewed the concession fare structure for senior citizens, and will withhold, for one year, the 1-cent increase for Senior Citizens ez-link concession fares as approved by PTC. SMRT will maintain the train concession fare for senior citizens ez-link cards at $0.64 and bus concession fare at $0.63.
3. In addition, SMRT will also extend the concession travel period for senior citizens after reviewing the peak hour travel patterns and in keeping with the five-day work week. In line with our principle of encouraging senior citizens to travel during off-peak hours, concession fares will now apply throughout Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays. And on weekdays, it will start at 9.00 am instead of 10.00 am, and will extend to 4.30 pm instead of 4.00 pm. This will save senior citizens an average of $0.58 per trip when they travel on SMRT trains and $0.14 per trip for SMRT buses during the new concession hours (9.00 am to 4.30 pm and after 7.00 pm from Mondays to Fridays, and on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays). This would mean SMRT's train subsidy per trip is four times that of buses, which is significant given SMRT's large base of train commuters.
4. SMRT's decision to not increase the Senior Citizen ez-link concession fares and to extend concession periods will benefit some 90,000 senior citizens trips made on SMRT trains and buses each day.
5. The revised fares (with effect from 1 July 2005) for SMRT trains, SMRT buses and Bukit Panjang LRT (BPLRT) are:
MRT Fares
There is no change in off-peak concession fares for Senior Citizen ez-link Card.
There is no change to existing fares for passengers using the Child/Student ez-link Card and Monthly Concession Passes.
Across the board, there will be a 1 to 3 cents increase for Adult ez-link Card
Across the board, there will be a 10-cent increase for Single Trip Ticket.
The existing and revised MRT fares are shown in Annex A.
BPLRT Fares
There is no change in off-peak concession fares for Senior Citizen ez-link Card.
There is no change to existing fares for passengers using the Child/Student ez-link Card and Monthly Concession Passes.
Across the board, there will be a 1 to 2 cents increase for Adult ez-link Card.
Across the board, there will be a 10-cent increase for Single Trip Ticket.
The existing and revised LRT fares are in Annex B.
Bus Fares
There is no change in off-peak concession fares for Senior Citizen ez-link Card.
There is no change to existing fares for passengers using the Child/Student ez-link Card and Monthly Concession Passes.
Across the board, there will be 1 to 2 cents increase for Adult ez-link Card.
Across the board, there will be a 10-cent increase for cash fares.
The existing and revised bus fares are in Annex C.
6. Conclusion
SMRT will keep commuters informed of the new fares through various channels such as posters, leaflets and its website
