The dancers from Bombay Dreams jumped at the invitation from Gareth Gates to accompany him on the video for the new Comic Relief 2003 single - Spirit in the Sky.......... The dancers donned their Shakalaka Baby costumes and joined Gareth and the cast of the Kumars for the comic routine which begins with Gareth waking up to a bit of a Bad Hair Day.
Bombay Dreams won the Best Play/Theatre Production Emma Award for 2003. The Emma Awards honour multicultural media personalities from the world of film, theatre, TV, music and journalism.
The show's composer, A R Rahman, has sold over 100 million soundtrack albums worldwide. Among dozens of celebrities who visited Bombay Dreams, the show also boasts such high profile audience members as HRH The Queen, the President of Sri Lanka, the Aga Khan and Cherie Blair and family.
Bombay Dreams ran on Broadway from April 2004 to January 2005. Several numbers were dropped, and new songs and scenes added in a major re-write of the original London production.
A typical Bollywood theme, water features prominently in the show. It is the only West End musical to feature a fully operational fountain, under which the cast perform Shakalaka Baby.
The London production cost £4.5M.
The original London production closed on it's second birthday on June 16th 2004. It was seen by almost 2,000,000 people.
