Singapore terms

  Hi,
  
  During my few days here, I noticed that Singaporeans have quite a vocaburlary!
  I don't know about some of them, as they seem to be in dialects or something.
  However, what I'm interested about is the English terms Singaporeans use.
  
  Like, for example....the word "mugging". In Orchard Road yesterday and for the past few days, I heard some high school students say "tomorrow must mug hard!" and "need to mug today la!" etc.
  
  What does "mugging" means here? In America, it means to pose for the camera and do funny faces. Is it the same here?

  i thought it meants to rob? i play ff last time mug is steal item + dmg so is robbing lor no?

  Oh, really? But they were talking as if they enjoyed it!
  At first, I thought that the Singaporean version of "mugging"/"mug" means to play hard or clown around hard. No?

  mugging to me is more like cramming those studies last minute.... a negative term for people who only does things at the last moments to pass the exams....

  Now, the only ones who can define how "americanised" Americans are...are only Americans themselves.
  I was in Korea once, and this guy told me that some Americans are so "un-americanised" that even local Koreans are more "americanised" than them!
  
  On the other hand, I'm not a native American. My family, originally from Britain, moved to that country since the mid-80s.
  In addition, maybe it's my job or maybe I'm used to it...but I always feel unprofessional if I use those American twangs and slangs in messages etc.
  
  Talking like that back home is fine, but business-wise and message-wise, it's always good to be neat.
