Yeah, why can't someone speak the way they like without you telling them how to do it?
Nothing wrong with the accent. Just that Singaporeans more often than not, speak with improper grammar and mispronounce words.

I remember reading somewhere (I think it's a BBC book about the history of the English language) that certain linguists believe that Singlish might be the forerunner of what future English might become...

I would attribute some fault to the govt...
Our esteemed leeders like to tell us that our grasp of the english language is sadly lacking when our school children are on par with their english counterparts. How many times have the leeders tell us to adopt the brit accent, or that australians and americans speak better english than us. Now, the leeder has decided that rap and hip hop slang is even better than our localised english accent!
In sg, where to culture is always to follow what the govt advocates, we would tend to follow in their footsteps and try to emulate the "foreign talent" behaviour...
This is my personal opinion -

"when in Rome, do as Romans do".. i have a slang when im in the States.. which is where i am now.. but whenever i go back to sg.. muahahaha, I SHALL UNLEASH THE SINGAPOREAN IN ME AND NEVER FORGET THAT I AM ONE.. its pretty cool.. when i say chee bye and ka ni na in class and no one knows wtf im saying

i guess that when you're talking about "Fake ang mo accent of SPG" you're refering to those "try-hard" girls who just want to be seen with caucasian guys.
It's up to an individual and their own motives. Some just want to be "in", some want to make conversation easier for caucasians etc etc.
But ultimately, all Singaporeans will definitely once in they're life to speak Singlish.
Anyways Singish came about WAY back in time somewhere in the Singapore history books. It's history that not many and even the government would "approve" of. -
