Doesnt this means that in 1 year's time the laptop which you bought today would be rendered useless and out of date? So, you pay 3k for something that will be outdated in 1 year's time?

Hardly, depends what you buy the laptop for... for me, i need portable, compact computing... my main concern is not power, but reliability to allow me to do my surfing, word editing and other basics on the go... if it can play media... cool... hence a year from now, though it may not be the top of the line, it would still be useful.
If I wanted a powerful, top of the line comp, I would slap together a PC... it's all about what you really want... -
most desktop apps still has a long way to captilize on dual-core, why shld i settle for something slower than single core for the next few years?

Haven't you heard that your notebook/pc is out of date within 3 months of your purhcase? So does this make it useless? Of course not. And no, I wouldn't buy a notebook in the near future because I just bought one less than a year ago. When it's time for my next laptop the price of the Yonah would have already gone down low enough, me thinks. -

I remember I went n bought the first TFT colour screen in Asia..limited edition one..out dated in 3 years..all the features that used to be 'high end' in my fone can be found in all the basic models these days

I am using a laptop right now as we speak.
Sure, laptop technology proceeds very quickly - but in the end, I don't need a turbocharged laptop with an attitude. I just need a decent, reliable system for doing my work.
If you're doing power applications or high-level games (eg KOTOR II) which require high processing speeds, you should get a desktop instead. -
