I need some travel advise for travelling to HK.Basically, my family is planning a trip there next week for the 1st time.I'm against getting an organised tour due to bad experience with such tours before.
Anyone here ever hired a mini-van with a personal tour guide who'll basically double up as cab driver for the whole day in HK before, and is it worth getting one?I feel that doing so gives you the flexibility of going wherever you want at your own pace.
If so,how much does one cost for the whole day for say 5 people?
if everyone is able, i would suggest u take the MTR
fast and cheap
there are oso buses to bring u thru city and to residential areas......
same like our buses...
there is not much "scenery" to see in HK......maybe oni lantau island, where u go pray to big big buddha.......go bai bai wong tai sin......

Ocean Park can go oso......one day for land, one day for water.......
other than tt it would be makan and shopping......mongkok for lu bian tan.......causeway bay for boutiques.......tsimshatsui can see gu huo zai......zhonghuan beo OLs.......
Don't think the MRT will suffice for 2 reasons.
1)My mum doesn't like taking public transport.And taking cab around the whole day would me more inconvenient as opposed to getting your own mini-van with driver.
2)No one in my family is proficient in Cantonese,let alone Mandarin.I speak basic Mandarin but wouldn't consider it passable in HK.
My sis basically wants to do 2 days HK and 2 days Shenzhen.We need a personal English speaking guide badly,if not it'll suck asking around for directions and getting blank stares as reply.
I would suggest that you can check with the agencies around here who can liase with their offices in HK to see if they could provide such a service. Or you could also fly over first and ask at the airport. If you have already found a hotel to stay in you could ask from the fron desk too.
I'm actually going to get the booking done in a day or two.Any hotels you would recommend which are centrally located in both HK and Shenzhen?
My dad's been there on business before and recommends the "New World" hotel or something(he can't recall exactly) is ok.I don't trust his judgement.Can anyone second that?It has to be decent enough(say 4*) as the mum and sisters are along.
