Anyone Suffer ligament injuries before? how long does it takes to heal? me havin it rite now. its been nearly 6 mnths. i dunno whether its recovering fast or not. any tips?

Did you have a strained (inflamed) or torn ligament?
If the ligament is inflamed, it would require a period of total rest to heal fast. The reason why some inflamed ligaments, especially of the legs and feet, may take longer periods to heal is because people with the inflamed ligament do not stop the aggravating activity completely or get enough rest to let the ligament heal. For example, if you have an inflamed ligament at the sole of the foot, you should not walk too much and stretch the ligament unneccessarily.
If the ligament is torn, it cannot fully heal itself. Surgery is required to repair the torn ligament.

It is hard to tell whether the ligament is torn or inflamed as both conditions may cause pain and swelling at the affected location. There may be a way to distinguish the severity of the injury, but a medical practitioner would be in the best position to diagnose the injury and determine if the ligament is torn or just inflamed. -
my petella tendon was torn before.had to go thru physiotherapy..

Pain and Swelling are pretty good indicators. An MRI scan is the best way to tell but they're pretty expensive. A CAT scan maybe the next cheapest option but not as accurate as the MRI. Which ligaments have you injured? Knee or Shoulder or ankle or etc?
Strikeman, 6 to 8 months with surgery and physio. If It's torn, it won't heal without surgery.

Well, i actually hav dis knee ligament. Its becoz i was doing some stupid stunts like jumping, backflip. But da funny thing, after whole day of those activities, my right knee was injured, den the next day i woke up, my left knee den injured while my right is OK. Kinda weird. But idi see the doctor, take n x-ray n dey answer, is jus a minor ligament injury n tell me to stay off rough activities. But kinda sad till now.Originally posted by Guest_111:Did you have surgery? There are different degrees of ligament tears. Not all require surgery to repair, but most do. Also, x-rays or CAT scans are mainly to check if you've broken anything. MRIs give you a better picture of the injury because they produce more high-definition images. Most times, the doctor will request that you go for at least a standard MRI to confirm the extent of the injury. If it requires surgery, normally it will be a minimally invasive procedure called arthroscopic surgery. Total reconsturction of the torn ligament through open surgery is pretty rare these days. With arthroscopic surgery and rehabilitative physiotherapy, you normally can be back to normal withtin 6-8 months.

erm i'm not so sure myself.but i thot the patella tendon is just the name of a particular tendon in ur kneecap?

its quite common stress to the ligament ,especially during exercise

I heard dat if ligament injury, we can do some sort like swimming to contract the muscules rite?

it took my ankle 7mths to heal... it took my ligament 8 mths to heal... n it took my ankle joint 8.5mths to heal... so total, it took me 9 mths to be able to walk normally.....
reason: had a very bad sprain dat tore my ligament kinda bad, but no need operations, n my joint was slightly off it's original place...
o.. n i was grounded for 1 yr b4 i cld go shopping n walk more again.... -

patella is this piece of bone at the front of the knee to provide a larger moment arm when extending your leg. its not connected to any other bone except by tendon/ligament( got controversy regarding naming i think). therefore i was thinkign if the patella tendon snap then how the patella stay in place
