  hi,
  
  this thread is basically for the females here, i guess...
  
  now, i know there's some flaws with us local boys and I would like to hear the local girls' comments on this.
  
  this is because I wanna improve myself, so as to make me a better guy for my own girlfriend.

  It wouldnt be fair to list out the faults of local boys as it would be a sweeping statement and I try to refrain from that
  
  Sometimes the faults perceived would be something endearing and not necessary necessitate a change you know ?
  
  Like I know this guy with a weak vocabulary, which is something very common in Singapore. But we laughed and joked about it always. I see no harm in having a few faults. When you like someone, you gotta take it warts and all. unless your gf complains incessantly about it, you shouldnt try too hard to change.

  My 2-cents worth:
  
  1) Dress better - be meticulous about grooming please!
  
  2) Be eloquent and more expressive- local guys are especially lacking in this aspect.
  
  3) Watch your body language and etiquette
  
  4) Be socially considerate
  
  5) Smile more

  change must come from within. There are many things to change when with different types of girls. Not all changes will bring positive impact

  but two more questions :
  
  1) do local girls in general mind a guy who speaks in standard english? i'm singaporean, but when it comes to speaking english, i never use any bit of singlish. i know this pisses some people off, but do girls here in general care about that?
  or do they generally prefer a 100%-singaporean boy who speaks 100% true-singlish?
  
  i personally feel singlish is very casual, interesting and funny, but i love english more, and can never bring myself to speak singlish.
  (unless i'm speaking mandarin and only then will i mix some singlish in)
  
  2) is it true that boys who have the gift of the gab(smooth, fast-talking guys who talk funny crap and almost everything under the sun) are easier to attract girls?

  No. But it is even better when its really you and not those who are really trying hard to impress.
  
  Yes. Guys who can talk are generally better company. If I wanna be with a wooden post, I'd find a real wooden post to be with.

  Speaking any language is fine but please do not abuse grammar! Even Singlish has its own grammar. Also, please articulate your words and pronounce words correctly. (i've cringed at local folks pronouncing 'wasps' as 'wahps', 'courrier' as 'korea', 'water' as 'woh-de', 'vale' as 'mere' (vice versa). Just gives me the creeps sometimes

  Anyone who can talk eloquently would attract anyone. If you were at the receiving end, ask yourself, would you approach someone who is quiet and seldom talks? (It gives others the impression that the person is unapproachable)

  this has to be the most degrading post ever, for guys...
  
  hey, no one can be perfect.
  
  even if you heed the "advices" here from girls and "improve" yourself, you'll just be "good enough" for the girls here....
  
  there're thousands of girls out there who has different tastes and requirements for guys, cant expect to be perfect for every single gal.
  
  just be yourself, don't have really idiotic habit (like digging your nose in public, talking with your mouth full, basic stuffs...) and suitable girls will be there eventually...
