Who knows any thing about broadband

  I dont understand all those terms like ADSL, DSL, LAN, Cable... whats the difference? Always tell my friends that my house got broadband..they would always ask me what type of bradband? I though broadband is just broadband?

  DSL is like use phoneline, the phone only takes up like 1% of the phone line I think, the rest can use for DSL.
  
  cable is a cable lor, like cable TV. u use it for internet.

  There are basically two types of broadband connections in Singapore.
  
  1) Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL)
  2) Cable
  
  1) ADSL works through phoneline and dialling on the network. You need to make sessions with the service provider by dialling up and logging in. Information is transfer to and fro thru phone lines
  ADSL providers includes: Singnet, Pacific Net
  
  2) Cable works on the basis on similar to LAN (Local Area Network) or rather a Wide Area Network. In this type of connections, the internet is always on meaning that you dont have to make session with the service provider. Once you on your computer, you are able to surf the net without any form of dialling or logging in. Information is transfer to and fro cable.

  LAN is usually used in office and internal to a organisation itself and not for broadband / public.

  broadband is just a general term for most high-transmission lines like different types of DSL line, and cable etc...though its correct definition has blurred with many high-speed technology.

  There is no connection between DSL and USB port, they are entirely different things.
  
  DSL is the connection, while the modem that you use for connecting to your internet connection uses USB. The modem can be ethernet or firewire or whatever hole they can screw.

  Because currently one I am using modem using USB port which singnet provide me with but now singnet is giving free ADSL modem which is using ethernet port. which is more faster and stable ?

  ADSL : Singnet offers 0.512Mbps, 1.5Mbps, 3.5Mbps

  In terms of speed, it doesn't make a difference which one you are using, cos the rate of transfer of your ADSL is much slower than the rate of transfer of your connection ports.
  
  Think what you should be more concerned about is do you have an ethernet port available? I would prefer the USB one cos USB ports are more readily available than Ethernet ports.. and so, u can use your modem with other computers.

  PS: Stability wise, all the same lah.. it depends on the manufacturer of the modem.

  But the singnet staff said is better to use ethernet port because using USB port.
  Damn it, they don't provide the ethernet port (as known as network card)

  if i not rong, there is no such ting as which one is betta...it depends on how u wna use it..USB faster and ezier to install, whereas ethernet nd to config dis config tt..
  moreova, if u r using usb,gd luck..cuz @ most support up to 2 comps for broadband onli, and does not support router if u wna add more comps..whras ethernet can support as many comps as the router can support..which makes it much much betta..

  So is wise to use ethernet port right? I dun want to use USB port because i used the remaining USB port for webcam, optical mouse, data cable for Hp and plus this USB modem. I think that's why using USB port to access internet is quite slow. anyway, what brand should i buy for the ethernet port for the singnet ADSL modem they provide now?
