Program for fax through computer

I have cable broadband and a pc, is it possible to fax documents through my pc to somebody else? what is the program needed?

The principal mode of a fax transmission is thru the phone line right? Otherwise it won't be termed fax right?
There's a software called winfax pro I used in the past to send/recieve fax transmissions thru a 56k modem.
If you ask me, if I have cable/broadband, why would I still want to fax? Send an image of the document or the document itself to an email address. -

What if it is a ADSL line? It is still a phone line so does that mean that fax is possible with pc?

Fax machines still use the old data transfer methods, thats why you get to hear all those breeeee-broooooo sounds from a fax machine. Those sounds are actually like what you hear when you pick up the phone, the busy tone, or not in use tone garbled into data packets.
Think of it as a 56K modem that but lets you scan paper documents. -
Maybe I should really consider getting the all in one printer....scanner, fax, printer system for my new place
