Chinese Customary... What is the "jei mei's " Role???

Hey ppl.
One of my very close friend is gona get married soon. and She wants me to be one of her "Jie Mei" during the chinese Customary.
All I know is that when the groom comes to the Bride's home, the "jie mei" is suppose to bar the door and give difficult tasks the groom to test the groom's devotion for the bride.
Is there anything else a "jie mei" is to do? What's a chinese customary like. never been to one just know what the TV shows....
P.S.
anyone have very good tricks, tasks to test the groom's devotion??? Give some ideas can??? Guys tell me what u were made to do in order to get into the house!!!

Other than the gate ragging, it depends what your friend asks you to do. In general just make yourself useful lah.
Be her personal assistant. Carry her train, help her move around in her gown. Help her in her outfit change. Pass messages, hold her handphone, etc.
Be part of her entourage and go from place to place with her.
Help logistically. Carry bags, outfits, jewellery, etc from place to place.
Keep an eye on her. Let her know if she has a smudge under the eye, lipstick mark on tooth, etc.
Help in the tea ceremony.
Be time-keeper. Make sure things are done on schedule.
It would be useful if you met your friend and her other jie meis before the wedding to discuss matters and find out how seriously the bride wants to tekan the groom
Don't want to spoil the mood by going overboard, right. Also find out if there's a dress code. -

even when i'm there and they ask for suggestions, i won't let go the ultimate...
just stick to the usual lar.. sing song lar, star jump/push up, suan tian ku la, write pre-nuptial.. all those quite standard.

oh choco brought out a good point. a jie mei on a power trip is VERY dangerous and looks bad on her, so be careful. there was one wedding i shot where the bride's mum had to step in becos she was unhappy. the sister said something to the effect of (after receiving an angpow from the groom and counting it) "ni de zhe ge chou qian xiang qu wo men de -insert_name_of_bride_here- !!!"
the bride's mum was so pissed man.. but she didn't say anything lar.. can tell from the face.. eheh
as for holding her train and all that, it's my opinion that the bride does NOT need her sisters to BABY her. if the floor is tiles or carpet, let her drag her train by herself, she's gotta learn how to walk in her dress for the march in at nite. perhaps on road, grass or wet areas, yeah can help her. i've seen a pretty gung ho bride, use both arms ENVELOP her whole dress from behind, prop it up and start walking, no probs. ahha but i guess it doesn't look all that feminine.. can be kinda cute in photos tho.
also, the sisters regularly helps the bride carry EVERYTHING, and the most impt thing that u might be holding is the angpows from the tea ceremony that she receives from her relatives. keep that safe.
oh and sister, PLEASE help her remember her bouquet. that's the one thing that's most commonly forgotten.
at work now can't type so long story (actually quite long liow) maybe tonite see how i type more lar.. haha
but hor.. i will NOT impart the ultimate tekkan to grooms to you. nononononono.. -

remember, the jie-meis are there to brighten and lighten the occasion and not to make the ceremony a painful one for the groom. -
