The seeds were eaten in Melanesia and Polynesia and the people there called it the "food tree". The seeds were roasted before eating. Elsewhere they are boiled. In Java, they are roasted, shelled, then eaten with rice. They are said to taste like soy bean. The raw seeds are toxic and may cause intoxication. Studies show the cooked seed to be rich in oil and proteins and easily digested by both humans and livestock.
The seeds are curiously similar in weight. Four seeds make up about one gramme.The ground seeds can produce an oil which was used as an industrial lubricant.
In Ancient Indian medicine, the ground seeds are used to treat boils and inflammations. -

Dont remember seeing any too.....Back in 80s yes got a lot of trees in AMK....I grew up in AMK... -

today's hunt turns out to be quite fruitful, found quite a lot. my bottle is full.

hee... years ago i pick in that area, and guess what ?
me reach home i had fever for 5days.. and when i check those seed the whole bottle turn black..
no choice my bro force me to return where it belong.. surprise it turn abit maroon when reach punggol..
so moral of the day is
pick it but be careful where u pick....

somewhere near the ferry terminal in sentosa. the runied city there==> beside the bicycle track. there a lot of saga seeds. i just went to pick about few hundreds of it last wed. lol
